SING

S. M.

YING to the Lord, our might,
With holy fervour sing;
Let hearts and instruments unite
To praise our heavenly King.

This is His holy house,

And this His festal day,

When He accepts the humblest vows

That we sincerely pay.

The Sabbath to our sires

In mercy first was given;

The Church her Sabbaths still requires

To speed her on to heaven.

We still, like them of old,
Are in the wilderness;

And God is still as near His fold,

To pity and to bless.

Then let us open wide

Our hearts for Him to fill ;
And He that Israel then supplied,
Will help His Israel still.

7.7.7.7.

10 Thy temple I repair:
Lord, I love to worship there,
When, within the veil, I meet
Christ before Thy mercy-seat.
2 Thou through Him art reconciled,
I through Him became Thy child;
Abba, Father, give me grace
In Thy courts to seek Thy face.

3 While Thy glorious name is sung, Touch my lips, unloose my tongue : Then my joyful soul shall bless

Thee, "The Lord my righteousness." 4 While the prayers of saints ascend, God of love, to mine attend;

Hear me, when Thy Spirit pleads:
for Jesus intercedes.

Hear;

5 While Thy ministers proclaim
Peace and pardon through Thy name,
In their voices let me own

Jesus speaking from the throne.
6 From Thy house when I return,
May my heart within me burn;
Would at evening I might say,-
"I have walked with God to-day."

Sunday Evening.

7.7.7.7.

LEST Creator of the light,
Making day with radiance bright,
Thou didst o'er the forming earth
Give the golden light its birth.
2 Shade of eve with morning ray
Took from Thee the name of Day;
Now again the shades are nigh,
Listen to our humble cry.

3 May we ne'er, by guilt deprest,
Lose the way to endless rest;
Nor with idle thoughts and vain
Bind our souls to earth again.

4 Rather may we heavenward rise
Where eternal treasure lies;
Purified by grace within,
Hating every deed of sin.

5 Holy Father, hear our cry

Through Thy Son, our Lord most High,
Whom our thankful hearts adore
With the Spirit evermore.

[blocks in formation]

RE another Sabbath close,
Ere again we seek repose,

ERE

Lord, to Thee our hearts we raise,
Breathe to Thee our song of praise.

2 For the mercies of the day,
For this rest upon our way,
Thanks to Thee alone be given,
God and King of earth and heaven.

3 Cold our services have been,
Prayers and praises marred by sin;
But Thou canst and wilt forgive;
By Thy grace alone we live.

4 While this path of life we tread,
May we by Thy love be led ;
When our journey here is past,
May we rest with Thee at last.

5 Let these earthly Sabbaths prove
Foretastes of the joy above,
Strengthening each, as on he tends
Toward that rest which never ends.

Baptism.

1 Christ crucified to own,

N token that thou shalt not fear

We print the cross upon thy brow,
And mark thee His alone.

2. In token that thou shalt not fear
Christ's conflict to maintain,
But as His soldier, manfully,
Firm at thy post remain;

3 In token that thou, too, shalt tread
The path He travelled by ;
Endure the cross, despise the shame,
And sit with Him on high;

4 Thus outwardly and visibly
We seal thee for His own;

And may the brow that wears His cross
Hereafter share His crown!

8. 7. 8. 7.

AVIOUR, who Thy flock art feeding
With the shepherd's kindest care,

All the feeble gently leading,

While the lambs Thy bosom share;

2 Now, these little ones receiving,
Fold them in Thy gracious arm;
There, we know, Thy word believing,
Only there, secure from harm.

3 Never, from Thy pasture roving,
Let them be the lion's prey;

Let Thy tenderness so loving
Keep them all life's dangerous way.

4 Then, within Thy fold eternal,
Let them find a resting-place;
Feed in pastures ever vernal,
Drink the rivers of Thy grace.

Confirmation.

8.8.8.8.8.8.

MATHER, Thy children pray to Thee; A boon of love Divine we seek : Brought to Thine arms in infancy,

Ere hearts could feel or tongues could speak, Thy children pray for grace, that they

May come themselves to Thee this day.

2 Lord, hear another suppliant cry!

When we draw near Christ's table spread, And, tokens of His agony,

The wine partake, and broken bread,
Bless Thou, oh bless, Thy children's prayer,
That they may find their Saviour there!
3 And oh, yet hear our prayer again!

Thy children ask one blessing more:
In that fast coming day, Lord, when
Life, death, and time itself are o'er,
Grant that we all may rise and be
Confirmed in heaven, confirmed by Thee!

OOK down, O Lord, and on our youth
Bestow Thy gifts of heavenly grace;
And let the seed of sacred truth

Find their young hearts a fruitful place.
