201 BREAD OF LIFE

IOS.

W. F. Sherwin, 1877

1. BREAK Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, As Thou didst break the loaves beside the 802.

Ob4

Be-yond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord; My spir-it pants for Thee, O living Word! Amen.

2 I have no help but Thine; nor do I need
Another arm but Thine to lean upon :

It is enough, my Lord, enough, indeed;
My strength is in Thy might, Thy might alone.
3 Mine is the sin, but Thine the righteousness;

Mine is the guilt, but Thine the cleansing blood;
Here is my robe, my refuge, and my peace;

Thy blood, Thy righteousness, O Lord, my God.
4 Feast after feast thus comes and passes by;
Yet, passing, points to the glad feast above,
Giving sweet foretastes of the festal joy,

The Lamb's great bridal feast of bliss and love.

Day by day His sweet voice soundeth, Say-ing, "Christian, fol-low me!" A - men.

[blocks in formation]

Unmeasured by the flight of years,
And all that life is love.

4 Here would we end our quest:
Alone are found in Thee

The life of perfect love, the rest
Of immortality.

2 "I delivered thee when bound, And, when bleeding, healed thy wound, Sought thee wandering, set thee right, Turned thy darkness into light. 3" Can a woman's tender care Cease towards the child she bare? Yes, she may forgetful be; Yet will I remember thee. 4 "Mine is an unchanging love, Higher than the heights above,

Deeper than the depths beneath, Free and faithful, strong as death. 5 "Thou shalt see my glory soon, When the work of grace is done; Partner of My Throne shalt be: Say, poor sinner, lov'st thou Me?" 6 Lord, it is my chief complaint, That my love is weak and faint; Yet I love Thee and adore; Oh, for grace to love Thee more!
