A, It teacheth us to carry ourselves as Children to our heavenly Father: First, In our Imitation of him, Eph. 5.1. Be ye therefore Followers of God as dear Children : Secondly, In our Submission to him, Heb. xii. 9. Furthermore, we have had Fatbers of our Flesh, which corrected us, and we gave ibem Reverence : Shall we not much rather be in Subje£tion to the Father of Spirits, and live? HAT is Sanctification ?

A. Sanctification is the work of God's Free-Grace, whereby we are renewed in the whole Man, after the Image of God, and are enabied more and more to die unto Sin, and live unto Righteousness.

Q. 1. What are the Parts of Sanctifications A. Dying unto Sin, and living unto God, Rom. vi. 11. Likewise' reckon ye also jourselves to be dead indeed unto Sin, lut alive unto God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Q. 2. Who is the Author of Sanctification ? H 3

Q. 4. What Part of Man is fan&tified ?

A. Every Part, both of the Soul and Body, 1.Thef. v. 23. And the very God of Peace sanctify you wholly, and I pray God your whole Spirit, Soul and Body, be preserved blameless, unto the coming of our Lord Jefus Chrift.

A. No; but by Degrees, 2 Pet. iii. 18. But grow in Grace, and in the Knowledge of cur Lord and Saviour Jejus Cbrift.

Q. 6. When will it be made perfect?

A. When we come to Heaven, and not before, i Cor. xiii. 10, 11. But when that which is perfect is come, then that rubich in Part shall be done away.

Q. 7. What are the Signs of true San&tification ?

A. When it runs into all parts of our Converfation, 1 Pet.' i. 15. But as he which hath called you is holy, fo be ye holy in all. Manner of Conversation : Secondly, And continues to the End, Rev. xxii. 11. Let bim that is boly, be holy fall.

Q. 8. What is the infeparable Companion of Sanétifcation ?

A. Righteousness towards Men, Luke i. 74, 75: Thar be wou'd grant unto us, that we being delivered ont of the Hands of our Enemies, might serve him without Fear, in Holiness, and Righteousness before bim all the Days of our Life.

Q. 9. What is opposite to Sanctification ?

A. All Filthiness of Flesh and Spirit, 2 Cor. vii. 1. Having therefore theje Promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse our felves from all Filthiness of Fleh and Spirit.

Q. 10. What is the privilege of the sanctified i

A. They are all clecied, and tha'l be glorified, 1 Pet. i. 2, 4. El & according to the Fore-knowledge of God the Father, through San&tification of the Spirit--to an Inheritance ircorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaun for you.

11. What is the Case of them who live and die unfanctified?.

A. They shall never fee God, Heb. xii. 14. Follow Peace with all Men, and Holiness, without which no Man fhall see the Lord.

Q: 12. What differenceth true, from pretended Sandification?

A. True San&tification purgeth the Heart from the Love of Sin, Rom. vii. 15. For ihat which I do, I allow not. And the Life from the Dominion of Sin, Rom. vi. 19. Asi ye have yielded your Members Servants to Uncleanness, and to Iniquity, unto Iniquity; even so now yield your Members Sero vants to Righteousness, unto Holiness.

Q. 13. May great Sinners be sanctified?

A. Yes, the Spirit of God can san&ify the vilef Heart, 1 Cor. vi. 11. And fuch were some of you, but ye are washed, but ye are fančtified.

HAT are the Benefits which in this either accompany, or flow from Jollification, Adoption, and San&ification ?

A. The Benefits which in this Life do either accompany, or flow from Juftification, Adoption, and Sanctification, are Assurance of God's Love, Peace of Conscience, Joy in the Holy Ghost, Increase of Grace, and Perseverance therein to the End.

Q. 1. Is Assurance poffible to be attained in this Life?
A. Yes ; for some have had it, Cant. vi. 3.

A. No, it admits of Doubts and Fears, which interrupts it, and it is not always at one Height, I Cor. xiii. io. When that which is perfect is come, then that which is in Part pall be done away.

Q. 4. On what Testimony is personal Aflurance built

A. Upon the Testimony of God's Spirit, 'witheffing with ours, Rom. viii, 16. The Spirit itself beareth Witnefs with our Spirit, that we are the Children of God.

Q. 5. Doth the Spirit make use of Signs in us to assure

A. Yes, ordinarily he doth, 1 John iii. 14. We know that we are passed from Death to Life, because we love thè Brethren. And ver. 24. Hereby we know that be abiderb in us, by the Spirit which he hath-given us.

Q. 6. How is true Assurance difcerned from Presumption ?

A. True Assurance humbles the Soul, Gal. ii. 20,* I am crucified with Chrift; nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Chrift liveth in me. And makes the Soul afraid of Sin, 2 Cor vii. 1. Having therefore these Promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all Filthiness of Flesh and Spirit, perfecting Holiness in the Fear of God.

Q. 7. What is the usual Season of Assurance ?

A. 'The Time of greatest Sufferings for Christ, 1 Pet. iv.. 14. If ye be reproached, for the Name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of Glory and of God refteth uțon you.

Q. 8. Is personal Assurance absolutely necessary to Salvation ?

A. No; a Man may be saved, and in Christ, without it, Isa. 1. 10. Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyetb the Voice of his Servant, that walketh in. Darkness, and hath no Lighı? Let him trust in the Name of the Lord, and stay upon his God?

Q. 9. What is the Fruit of Assurance ?
A. Joy unspeakable amidst outward Troubles, Rom. v.

And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Chrift, ły whom we have now received the Atonement.

Q. 10. What Sins usually eclipse our Assurance ?

A. Negligence in Duty ftarves it, 2 Pet. i. 10. Give Di. ligence to make your Calling and Elestion sure. For if se do thefe Things ye shall never fall. And sinning against Light

Of Peace of Conscience, Quef. 1. WHAT doth the Word Peace fignify in

Scripture? 5. A. In the Language of the Old Testament it signifies all temporal Good, 1 Sam. xxv. 6. Peace be both to thee, and Peace be to thine House, 'and Peace be unto all that thou haft. And in the New Teitament all fpecial Good; as 2 Thef. iii. 16. Now the Lord of Peace give you Peace always.

Q. 2. What are the kinds of fpecial Peace ? :: A. There is a twofold fpecial Peace.; One without us, by Réconciliation, Rom. v. 1. Therefore being junified by Faith, we huve Peace avith God. And Peace within us by Way of Consolation, Col. jii. 15. And let the Peace of God rule in your Hearts.

Q. 3. What did our Peace coft Chrift? A. It colt himn bloody Stripes and Sufferings, Ifa. liii. 5. The Chaftisement of our Peace was upon him, and by his Stripes we are bealed.

Q. 4. Can none have true Peace but such as are in him?

A. No; others may have false Peace, Luke xi. 21. When

a strong Man armed keepeth bis Palace, his Goods are in Peace. But Believers only have true Peace, Rom. v. 1.
