I roasted him over a slow fire, bound only by a chain by the waist, and he ran

Earth and Sky shattering book !!!! I read it in Bulgarian my mother's tongue.... I had no idea Bulgaria had a living Literary Giant of the caliber of Kazantzakis... Makes one think if Bulgaria has given birth to men of the caliber of Manol, the main protagonist of the book and movie, then this nation will rise.... I have been fishing in the Rhodope mountain lakes as a kid and they are truly magical... but after I read this book, I started to look at that region of the world with an entirely different outlook... One of the best books I have read. It should be historical, but I think is about a values of life and faith. Three brothers one converted in Islam, the other two are still Christians - ready to lose them life, but sticking in its predecessors' religion. They received more support from them Islamic neighbors then coming up rapists. The destiny is curving in different aspects, but the end is loaded with a lot of hope.
It is worth reading this book.
