in all adversities. O Lord, strengthen our faith, kindle it more in fervent love toward thee, and our neighbours for thy sake. Suffer us not, most dear Father, to receive thy word or keep thy sabbaths in vain, but let the word which we hear dwell in us richly in all wisdom, and the grace which we implore bring forth in us all the fruits of righteousness. Let thy mighty hand and outstretched arm, O Lord, be still our defence; thy mercy and loving kindness in Jesus Christ, thy dear Son, our salvation; thy true and holy word, our instruction; thy grace and Holy Spirit, our comfort and consolation unto the end, and in the end; through Jesus Christ our Lord and only Saviour.

Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father, for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

FOR GRACE.

Lord of all power and might, who art the author and giver of all good things, grant us, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as be rightful, that we, who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will: graft in our hearts the love of thy name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of thy great mercy keep us in the same, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Prayer for the Church

FOR THE CHURCH OF CHRIST.

Almighty and everliving God, who by thy holy apostle hast taught us to make prayers and supplications, and to give thanks for all men, we humbly beseech thee most mercifully to inspire the universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord; and grant that all they that do confess thy holy name, may agree in the truth of thy holy word, and live in unity and godly love. And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace, that with meek heart and due reverence they may hear and receive thy holy

beseech thee of thy goodness, O Lord, to comfort
and succour all them who in this transitory life are in
trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adver-

servants departed this life in thy faith and fear, be-
seeching thee to give us grace so to follow their good
examples, that with them we may be partakers of thy
heavenly kingdom. Grant this, O Father, for Jesus
Christ's sake, our only mediator and advocate.

THANKSGIVING.

O Lord, who art full of compassion and mercy, Psalm ciii. long-suffering, and of great goodness, we bless and praise thy holy name for all the benefits vouchsafed unto us; blessed be Thou, who forgivest all our sin, and healest all our infirmities; who savest our life from destruction, and crownest us with mercy and loving-kindness. Give us hearts, we beseech thee, always ready to express our thankfulness, not only by words, but also by our lives, in being more obedient to thy holy commandments; and continue, if thou seest fit, this thy goodness to us, that we may serve thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of our life; through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

property is always to have mercy; to thee only it appertaineth to forgive sins; spare us, therefore, good Lord, spare thy people whom thou hast redeemed; enter not into judgment with thy servants who are vile earth and miserable sinners; but so turn thine anger from us, who meekly acknowledge our vileness and truly repent us of our faults; and so make haste to help us in this world, that we may ever live with thee in the world to come, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

FOR GRACE.

O God, who declarest thy Almighty power most chiefly in shewing mercy and pity, mercifully grant unto us such a measure of thy grace, that we, running the way of thy commandments, may obtain thy gracious promises, and be made partakers of thy heavenly 2d Collect treasure; vouchsafe to direct, sanctify, and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of thy laws, and in the works of thy commandments, that through thy most mighty protection both here and ever we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Continue, if thou seest fit, this thy goodness to us, that we may know and acknowledge thee to be our Saviour and mighty deliverer; and grant us grace, that we may henceforth obediently walk in thy holy commandments, and leading a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty, may continually offer unto thee our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving for these thy mercies towards us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
