LESSON V.

FAITHFULNESS.

1. How are we taught to be earnest in all that we do?

"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might." Ecclesiastes ix. 10.

2. Unto whom should all our work be done? Colossians iii. 23.

Teach me, my God and King,

In all things Thee to see;
And what I do in any thing

To do it as for Thee!

A God to glorify;

A never-dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky;
To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfil :

Oh, may it all my powers engage

To do my Master's will!

Arm me with jealous care,
As in Thy sight to live;

And oh! Thy servant, Lord, prepare

The strict account to give.

Help me to watch and pray,
And on Thyself rely;
Assured, if I my trust betray,
I shall forsaken die.

LESSON VI.

ENDURE HARDNESS.

1. Can we be disciples of Christ unless we are will

ing to deny ourselves? St. Luke ix. 23.

Must Jesus bear the cross alone,

And all the world go free?
No, there's a cross for every one;
And there's a cross for me.

3. What does our Lord say we must be ready to give up for His sake? St. Luke ix. 24.

4. In what solemn words does He teach us that doing wrong can never bring us any real good? St. Mark viii. 36, 37.

5. What must the soldiers of Christ be prepared to endure? 2 Timothy ii. 3.

6. What battle have we to fight?

"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life." 1 Timothy vi. 12.

7. How did the apostles rejoice to suffer for their Lord? Acts v. 41.

8. What is the promise to those who are faithful? "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life." Rev. ii. 10.

Am I a soldier of the cross,

A follower of the Lamb?

And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His name?

Must I be carried to the skics
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,

Or sailed through stormy seas!

LESSON VII.

TRUTH.

1. How does the Lord look upon falsehood and deceit ?

Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are His delight." Proverbs xii. 22.

2. Does not He require of us to be true in our hearts, as well as in our words?

"Behold, Thou desirest truth in the inward parts." Psalm li. 6.

3. With what feeling should we therefore regard all untruthfulness? Psalm cxix. 163.

4. How should we pray to be kept from this sin? Psalm cxli. 3.

5. What was the prayer of the Psalmist, and what should be ours also?

"Teach me Thy way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy truth." Psalm lx xxvi. 11.

No sinful word, nor deed of wrong,
Nor thoughts that idly rove,
But simple truth be on our tongue,

And in our hearts be love.

7. What is the teaching of Paul on this subject in his letter to the Ephesians?

"Wherefore, putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor." Ephesians iv. 25.

8. What is the only kind of service which can please God?

"Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve Him in sincerity and in truth." Joshua xxiv. 14.

9. Describe the upright man who is approved and loved by God. Psalm xv. 1, 2.

Guide us in the way of truth;

Keep our feet from paths of error,
Make us holy in our youth.

LESSON VIII.

JUDGE NOT.

2. Ought we not to be more concerned in correcting our own faults than in watching for those of our neighbors? St. Matthew vii. 3-5.
