BAPTISM OF ADULTS.

"Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of [S. M his might."

SOLDIERS of Christ, arise,

And put your armour on;

Strong in the strength which God supplies
Through his eternal Son.

2 Strong in the Lord of hosts,
And in his mighty power;

Who in the strength of Jesus trusts,
Is more than conqueror.

3 Stand then in his great might,
With all his strength endued;
And take, to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God;

4 That having all things done,
And all your conflicts past,
Ye may behold your victory won,
And stand complete at last.

217 "Kept by the power of God through faith unto

salvation."

MY God, thy covenant of love

Abides for ever sure;

And in its matchless grace I feel

My happiness secure.

[C. M

2 Since thou, the everlasting God,
My Father art become,

Jesus, my Guardian and my Friend,
And heaven my final home,-—

3 I welcome all thy sovereign will,
For all that will is love;

And when I know not what thou dost,
I wait the light above.

4 Thy covenant in darkest gloom

Shall heavenly rays impart,

Which, when my eyelids close in death,
Shall warm my chilling heart.

218 "I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have

believed."

ESUS, and shall it ever be,

JESUS,

[L. M

A mortal man ashamed of thee? Ashamed of thee, whom angels praise, Whose glories shine through endless days?

2 Ashamed of Jesus! sooner far
Let night disown each radiant star;
'Tis midnight with my soul, till he,
Bright Morning Star, bid darkness flee.

3 Ashamed of Jesus! O as soon
Let morning blush to own the sun;
He sheds the beams of light divine
O'er this benighted soul of mine.

4 Ashamed of Jesus! that dear Friend
On whom my hopes of heaven depend?
No; when I blush, be this my shame,
That I no more revere his name.

5 Ashamed of Jesus! empty pride;
I'll boast a Saviour crucified;
And O may this my portion be,
My Saviour not ashamed of me.

V. OFFICES OF THE CHURCH.

CATECHISM.

219 "Jesus saith, Have ye never read, Out of the [ 7s. 6s. mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise."

WHEN, his salvation bringing,

To Zion Jesus came,

The children all stood singing
Hosanna to his name;

Nor did their zeal offend him,
But as he rode along,

He let them still attend him,
And smiled to hear their song.
Hosanna to Jesus they sang.

Double, with Chorus

220

2 And since the Lord retaineth
His love to children still,

Though now as King he reigneth
On Zion's heavenly hill;
We'll flock around his banner,
Who sits upon the throne,
And cry aloud, Hosanna
To David's royal Son:

Hosanna to Jesus we'll sing.

3 For should we fail proclaiming
Our great Redeemer's praise,
The stones, our silence shaming,
Might well hosannas raise.

But shall we only render

The tribute of our words?
No; while our hearts are tender,
They too shall be the Lord's.
Hosanna to Jesus, our King.

"Sing unto the Lord, and praise his name."

LORY to the Father give,

GLORY

God in whom we move and live;
Children's prayers he deigns to hear,
Children's songs delight his ear.

2 Glory to the Son we bring,

Christ our Prophet, Priest, and King;
Children, raise your sweetest strain
To the Lamb, for he was slain.

[75.

3 Glory to the Holy Ghost,
He reclaims the sinner lost;
Children's minds may he inspire,
Touch their tongues with holy fire.

4 Glory in the highest be
To the blessed Trinity,

For the Gospel from above,

For the word that "God is love."

221 "Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and

seek him with their whole heart."

From the cxix. Psalm.

[C. M

OW bless'd are they who always keep

How

The pure and perfect way;

Who never from the sacred paths

Of God's commandments stray!

2 How bless'd, who to his righteous laws
Have still obedient been;

And have with fervent, humble zeal
His favour sought to win!

3 Such men their utmost caution use
To shun each wicked deed;
But in the path which he directs
With constant care proceed.

4 Thou strictly has enjoin'd us, Lord
To learn thy sacred will;
And all our diligence employ
Thy statutes to fulfil.
