I know too well the poi son and the sting Of things too sweet. AMEN.

2 For one thing only, Lord, dear Lord, I plead:

Lead me aright,

Though strength should falter, and though heart should bleed,

Thro' summer's heat and win-ter's cold, With eye that nev-er sleeps. A

MEN.

I We bless Thee for Thy peace, O God, 3 That peace which suffers and is strong, Deep as the unfathomed sea,

Which falls like sunshine on the road Of those who trust in Thee.

2 We ask not, Father, for repose

Which comes from outward rest, If we may have through all life's woes Thy peace within our breast.

Trusts where it cannot see, Deems not the trial-way too long,

But leaves the end with Thee.

4 That peace which flows serene and deep. A river in the soul,

Whose banks a living verdure keep,
God's sunshine o'er the whole.

5 O Father, give our hearts this peace,
Whate'er the outward be,
Till all life's discipline shall cease,
And we go home to Thee.

2 Let the world call itself my foe, Or let the world allure;

I care not for the world, I go
To this tried friend and sure.

And when life's fiercest storms are sent
Upon life's wildest sea,
My little bark is confident

Because it holds by Thee.

3 I do not fear the wilderness
Where Thou hast been before;
Nay, rather would I daily press
After Thee, near Thee, more!
Thou art my strength; on Thee I lean;
My heart Thou makest sing;
And to Thy pastures green at length
Thy chosen flock wilt bring.
