THORNTON. 8.7.

From "Modern Harp."

He shall charge his angel legions
Watch and ward o'er thee to keep,
Though thou walk thro' hostile regions,
Though in desert wilds thou sleep.

Since, with pure and firm affection,
Thou on God hast set thy love,
With the wing of his protection
He shall shield thee from above.
James Montgomery.

The Prayer of Life.

309.
FATHER, hear the prayer we offer:
Not for ease that prayer shall be;
But for strength, that we may ever
Live our lives courageously.

Not for ever in green pastures
Do we ask our way to be;

But the steep and rugged pathway
May we tread rejoicingly.

Not for ever by still waters

Would we idly quiet stay; But would smite the living fountains From the rocks along our way.
