Pleasures of Spiritual Worship.

URWICK'S COLL

1 HOW sweet to bless the Lord,
And in his praises join,
With saints his goodness to record,
And sing his power divine!

2 These seasons of delight

The dawn of glory seem,
Like rays of pure, celestial light,
Which on our spirits beam.

3 0, blest assurance this;

Bright morn of heavenly day;
Sweet foretaste of eternal bliss,
That cheers the pilgrim's way.
4 Thus may our joys increase,
Our love more ardent grow,
While rich supplies of Jesus' grace
Refresh our souls below.

Worship acceptable from every Place.

PIERPONT

1 O THOU, to whom, in ancient time,
The lyre of Hebrew bards was strung,
Whom kings adored in songs sublime,
And prophets praised with glowing tongue,

2 Not now on Zion's height alone

Thy favored worshipper may dwell, Nor where, at sultry noon, thy Son Sat, weary, by the patriarch's well. 3 From every place below the skies,

The grateful song, the fervent prayer, The incense of the heart, may rise

To heaven, and find acceptance there. 4 O Thou, to whom, in ancient time, The lyre of prophet-bards was strung,

To thee, at last, in every clime,
Shall temples rise and praise be sung.

The acceptable Worship.

1 FATHER of our feeble race,
Wise, beneficent, and kind,
Spread o'er nature's ample face
Flows thy goodness unconfined:
Musing in the silent grove,

Or the busy walks of men,
Still we trace thy wondrous love,
Claiming large returns again.

J. TAYLOR.

2 Lord, what offerings shall we bring,
At thine altars when we bow?
Hearts, the pure, unsullied spring
Whence the kind affections flow;
Soft compassion's feeling soul,

By the melting eye expressed;
Sympathy, at whose control

Sorrow leaves the wounded breast;
3 Willing hands to lead the blind,
Heal the wounded, feed the poor;
Love, embracing all our kind;
Charity, with liberal store:
Teach us, O thou Heavenly King,
Thus to show our grateful mind,
Thus th' accepted offering bring,
Love to thee and all mankind.

Worship.

1 HOLY and reverend is the name

Of our Eternal King;

"Thrice holy Lord!" the angels cry ;
"Thrice holy!" let us sing.

2 The deepest reverence of the mind
Pay, O my soul, to God;
Lift with thy hands a holy heart
To his sublime abode.

3 With sacred awe pronounce his name,
Whom words nor thoughts can reach :
A contrite heart will please him more
Than the best forms of speech.

4 Thou holy God! preserve my soul
From all pollution free;

The pure in heart are thy delight,
And they thy face shall see.

SPIRIT OF THE PSALMS.

Enjoyment in Worship.

1 SWEET is the task, O Lord,
Thy glorious acts to sing,

To praise thy name, and hear thy word,
And grateful offerings bring.

2 Sweet, at the dawning hour,

Thy boundless love to tell ;

And, when the night-wind shuts the flower,
Still on the theme to dwell.

3 Sweet, on this day of rest,

To join, in heart and voice,

With those who love and serve thee best,
And in thy name rejoice.

4 To songs of praise and joy

Be every Sabbath given,

That such may be our blest employ

30.

Eternally in heaven.

1 THE offerings to thy throne which rise,

Of mingled praise and prayer,

Are but a worthless sacrifice
Unless the heart is there.

2 Upon thine all-discerning ear
Let no vain words intrude;
No tribute but the vow sincere,-
The tribute of the good.

3 My offerings will indeed be blest,
If sanctified by thee,

If thy pure spirit touch my breast
With its own purity.

4 O, may that spirit warm my heart
To piety and love,

31.

And to life's lowly vale impart
Some rays from heaven above!

Delight in the Sabbath.

1 SWEET is the work, my God, my King,
To praise thy name, give thanks, and sing;
To show thy love by morning light,
And talk of all thy truth at night.

2 Sweet is the day of sacred rest;
No mortal care shall seize my breast;
O, may my heart in tune be found,
Like David's harp of solemn sound!

3 My heart shall triumph in my Lord,

WATTS.

And bless his works, and bless his word
Thy works of grace, how bright they shine!
How deep thy counsels! how divine!

4 When shall I see, and hear, and know,
All I desired or wished below,

And every power find sweet employ
In an eternal world of joy?

Anticipating Worship.

1 LORD, in the morning thou shalt hear
My voice ascending high;

To thee will I direct my prayer,
To thee lift up mine eye.

2 Thou art a God before whose sight
The wicked shall not stand;

Sinners shall ne'er be thy delight,
Nor dwell at thy right hand.

3 But to thy house will I resort,
To taste thy mercies there;
I will frequent thine holy court,
And worship in thy fear.

4 O, may thy spirit guide my feet
In ways of righteousness,
Make every path of duty straight
And plain before my face.

H. WARE, JR.

1 FATHER in heaven, to thee my heart
Would lift itself in prayer;

Drive from my soul each earthly thought,
And show thy presence there.

2 Each moment of my life renews
The mercies of my Lord,

Each moment is itself a gift
To bear me on to God.

3 O, help me break the galling chains

This world has round me thrown,
Each passion of my heart subdue,
Each darling sin disown.

4 O Father, kindle in my breast
A never-dying flame
