THURSDAY EVENING.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, in whom we live, and move, and have our being; forasmuch as thou hast commanded us to be anxiously careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, to let our requests be made known unto thee; we gladly obey thy gracious command. Pour upon us, we beseech thee, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in thy sight.

Almighty God, Father of our Lord

Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men; we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, by thought, word, and deed, against thy divine Majesty; provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings. The remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father.

For

thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee, in newness of life; to the honour and glory of thy Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Grant to us, Lord, we beseech

thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as are rightful; that we, who cannot do any thing which is good, without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed; give unto thy servants, that peace, which the world cannot give; that both, our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also, that by thee, we being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest and quietness, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy, defend us from all perils and dangers of this night, for the love of

thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us, this day, our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Most gracious God, who hast set thy servant GEORGE our King upon the throne of his ancestors, we most humbly beseech thee to protect him on the same from all the dangers to which he may be exposed. Hide him from the gathering together of the froward, and from the insurrection of wicked doers. Do thou

weaken the hands, blast the designs, and defeat the enterprises of all his enemies, that no secret conspiracies, nor open violences, may disquiet his reign; but that being safely kept under the shadow of thy wing, and supported by thy power, he may triumph over all opposition; that so the world may acknowledge thee to be his Defender and mighty Deliverer in all difficulties and adversities, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O God, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men, that thou wouldest be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all Nations. More especially, we pray for the good estate of the Catholic Church; that may be so guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who pro
