COLLECTS,

To be read on the days mentioned below.

Christmas-Day.

ALMIGHTY God, who at the first coming of thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ didst send a messenger to prepare his way before him; grant, we beseech thee, that the ministers of thy word may likewise so prepare and make ready his way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, that at his second coming to judge the world, we may be found an acceptable people in thy sight; and may by him be presented faultless before the throne of thy glory, there to live with thee world without end. Amen.

Good-Friday.

ALMIGHTY God, we beseech thee graciously to behold thy household the church, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the cross: And as thou sparedst

not thy beloved Son, but deliveredst him up for us all, we confide in thy great. mercy that thou wilt with him also freely give us all things that thou knowest to be good for us, now and for ever. Amen.

Easter-Day.

ALMIGHTY God, by whose mercy our Lord Jesus Christ hath overcome

death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life; grant us to rise from the death of sin to the life of righteousness, that when Christ, who is our life, shall appear, we also may appear with him in glory. Amen.

Whitsunday.

O GOD, who didst teach the hearts of thy faithful people, by sending to them the light of thy holy spirit; grant us, we beseech thee, to have a right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in thy holy comfort, and constantly to obey thy blessed will in all holiness and righteousness. Amen.

The Service having been introduced by a VOLUNTARY on the Organ, or the Singing of a HYMN, the Minister shall read some one or more of these sentences of the Scriptures that follow; and then he shall say that which is written after the said sentences: the Minister and the Congregation standing.

WHEN the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Ezek. xviii. 27.

Enter not into judgement with thy servants, O LORD; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. Psalm cxliii. 2.

C

The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John iv. 23. 24.

To us, there is but one God, THE FATHER; and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul; and to love our neighbour as ourselves, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 1 Cor. viii. 6, Mark xii. 33.

DEARLY beloved brethren, the Scripture moveth us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness, and that we should not dissemble nor cloke them before the face of almighty God our heavenly Father, but confess them with a lowly, penitent and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same by his infinite goodness and mercy. And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our sins before God, yet ought we most chiefly so to do,

when we assemble and meet together, to render thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are requisite and necessary as well for the body as the soul. Wherefore I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble voice, unto the throne of the heavenly grace: saying after me:

A general Confession to be said by the whole Congregation after the Minister; all kneeling or standing.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep; We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts; We have offended against thy holy laws; We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done.-But thou, O LORD, have mercy upon us. Spare thou them, O God, who confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind by Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful
