SIMPLE INTEREST.

Interest is a consideration allowed for the use of money ; relative to which are four particulars, viz.

First. The principal, or sum at use.
Second. The time the principal is at use.

Third. The rate per cent. or interest of 100 pounds, or dollars, for one year.

Fourth. The amount, which is the sum of the principal and interest.

CASE 1. When the time is one year, and the rate per cent. is pounds or dollars only.

RULE.* Multiply the principal by the rate per cent. and divide the product by 100.

PROOF.
By the Single Rule of Three.

EXAMPLES. 1. What is the interest of 525 L. for 1 year, at 6L. per cent. per annum ?
