3 Their hearts together seek the place
Where God reveals his smiling face;
How high, how strong, their raptures swell,
There's none but kindred souls can tell.

4 Nor shall the glowing flame expire
When nature droops her sickening fire;
Then shall they meet in realms above -
A heaven of joy, because of love.

1 LET pure devotion rise,
And kindle to a flame,

Ascend like incense to the skies,
In our Redeemer's name.

2 His word, like drops of dew,
Descends on every heart,
Subdues and fashions us anew,
And bids our sins depart.

3 His grace our faith sustains,
And dissipates our fear,
Binds all our wounds, abates our pains,
And gives us comforts here.

4 He bids our willing eyes

Look through the gloomy shade,

To joys immortal in the skies,
That never cloy nor fade.

Going to Church.

1 How did my heart rejoice to hear
My friends devoutly say,
"In Zion let us all appear,

And keep the solemn day!"

WATTS.

2 Up to her courts, with joys unknown,
The holy tribes repair;

The Son of David holds his throne,
And sits in judgment, there.

3 Peace be within this sacred place,
And joy a constant guest;
With holy gifts and heavenly grace
Be her attendants blest.

4 My soul shall pray for Zion still,
While life or breath remains;

11.

There my best friends, my kindred, dwell;
There God, my Saviour, reigns.

At the Forming of a Church.

1 O GOD of Zion! from thy throne Look with an eye of pity down;

Thy church now humbly makes her prayer;
Thy church, the object of thy care.

2 We need defence from all our foes,
We need relief from all our woes;
If earth and hell should yet assail,
Let neither earth nor hell prevail.

3 Near to each other, and to thee,
Lord, bring us all in unity;
O, pour thy Spirit from on high,
And all our numerous wants supply.

4 O, show that in our low estate
No blessing for us is too great;

We plead thy Son, we plead thy word,
O Founder, Patron, bounteous Lord!

The Lord's Prayer.

1 OUR Heavenly Father, hear

The prayer we offer now:

MONTGOMERY.

Thy name be hallowed far and near,
To thee all nations bow.

2 Thy kingdom come; thy will
On earth be done in love,
As saints and seraphim fulfil
Thy perfect law above.

3 Our daily bread supply,

While by thy word we live;
The guilt of our iniquity
Forgive, as we forgive.

4 From dark temptation's power
Our feeble hearts defend;
Deliver in the evil hour,

And guide us to the end.

5 Thine, then, forever be Glory and power divine;

13.

The sceptre, throne, and majesty
Of heaven and earth are thine.

C. M.

Homage and Devotion.

1 WITH sacred joy we lift our eyes
To those bright realms above.
That glorious temple in the skies
Where dwells eternal love.

2 Thee we adore, and, Lord, to thee
Our filial duty pay;

JERVIS.

Thy service, unconstrained and free,
Conducts to endless day.

3 While in thy house of prayer we kneel
With trust and holy fear,
Thy mercy and thy truth reveal,
And lend a gracious ear.

4 With fervor teach our hearts to pray,
And tune our lips to sing;

14.

Nor from thy presence cast away
The sacrifice we bring.

Prayer for Divine Direction.

CAPPE'S SEL.

1 ETERNAL Source of life and light,

Supremely good and wise,

To thee we bring our grateful vows,
To thee lift up our eyes.

2 Our dark and erring minds illume
With truth's celestial rays;
Inspire our hearts with sacred love,
And tune our lips to praise.

3 Safely conduct us, by thy grace,
Through life's perplexing road;
And place us, when that journey 's o'er,
At thy right hand, O God.

Attachment to the Church.

1 I LOVE thy church, O God;
Her walls before thee stand,
Dear as the apple of thine eye,
And
graven on thy hand.

DWIGHT.

2 For her my tears shall fall;
For her my prayers ascend;
To her my cares and toils be given,
Till toils and cares shall end.

3 Beyond my highest joy

I prize her heavenly ways,

Her sweet communion, solemn vows,
Her hymns of love and praise.

4 Father and Friend divine,

Our Saviour and our King,

Thy hand, from every snare and foe,
Shall great deliverance bring.
