DELIGHT IN ROME AT THE DEATH OF
TIGELLINUS.

279. Par inde exsultatio disparibus causis consecuta, inpetrato Tigellini exitio. Apud Galbam T.

Vinii potentia defensus, praetexentis servatam ab eo filiam; et haud dubie servaverat, non clementia, quippe tot interfectis, sed effugio in futurum ; quia pessimus quisque, diffidentia praesentium mutationem pavens, adversus publicum odium privatam gratiam praeparat; unde nulla innocentiae cura, sed vices inpunitatis. Eo infensior populus, addita ad vetus Tigellini odium recenti T. Vinii invidia: concurrere e tota urbe in palatium ac fora, et, ubi plurima vulgi licentia, in circum ac theatra effusi, seditiosis vocibus obstrepere: donec Tigellinus, accepto apud Sinuessanas aquas supremae necessitatis nuntio, inter deformes moras, sectis novacula faucibus, infamem vitam foedavit etiam exitu sero et inhonesto.

ON A CRYSTAL.

280. Adspice porrectam splendenti fragmine venam qua trahitur limes lucidiore gelu.

A SERIES OF HANDBOOKS TO EXAMINATIONS.

Edited by F. S. PULLING, M.A., Exeter College.

THE object of this Series is to guide Students in their reading for the different examinations. The amount of time wasted at present, simply through ignorance of the way to read, is so great that the Editor and Authors feel convinced of the necessity for some such handbooks, and they trust that these Guides will at least do something to prevent in the future the misapplication of so much industry.

Each volume will be confined to one branch of study, and will be undertaken by a writer whose experience qualifies him to speak with authority on the subject. The books will contain advice as to how to read and what to read, how to prepare subjects for examination, and how to answer papers.

They will also include an account of the various Scholarships and Prizes offered by the University or the Colleges in each department; specimen questions will be added, as well as selections from the Regulations of the Boards of Studies.
