truth towards the house of Israel. O, give thanks unto the Lord, for his mercy endureth forever. Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can show forth all his praise? Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee; let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he hath visited and redeemed his people, and hath raised up an horn of salvation for us, in the house of his servant David, as he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets which have been since the world began; that we should be saved from our enemies, and from all that hate us. Blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them, and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

But ye are come unto Mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the

heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels; To the general assembly and church of the first-born, which are written in heaven; and to God, the Judge of all; and to the spirits of just men made perfect; and to Jesus, the mediator of the new covenant; and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than the blood of Abel. Where

fore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord; Forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

PRAYER.

Merciful and Indulgent Father; we give thee most hearty thanks for the gift of a Saviour, and for the light of his gospel. We thank thee for all the blessed influences and hopes of that gospel, and especially for its power to overcome all obstacles, and win its way to the hearts of the children of men. Be pleased, O God, to accept our grateful thanks for all

the success that has attended our labors in the vineyard of thy Son, and enable us in humility of heart to say, Not unto us, but unto thy name, be all the glory.

We devoutly pray for thy blessing upon all the services and duties of this meeting. May everything be done to thy acceptance, and in such a manner as shall tend to thy glory, and our own advancement in the path of piety and virtue. Wilt thou continue to add unto this Church, of such as shall be saved from the errors and sins of the world; and may we all be built up in the most holy faith, and in the practice of every virtue that should adorn the followers of the meek and lowly Jesus. And we pray, O Lord, that the success which now attends us may be but the first fruits of a plentiful harvest. In thine own good time, wilt thou spread abroad the knowledge of thy truth throughout the earth, that all may know thee, the only living and true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent: and unto thee be all honor, glory, domin

ion and power, through Jesus Christ our Amen.

Lord.

SCRIPTURE LESSON V.

FOR OPENING IN A TIME OF AFFLICTION.

PASTOR. HOW amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!

--

RESPONSE. My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord.

P.-Blessed are they that dwell in thy

house.

R.-They will be still praising thee. P.-Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee;

R.-For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand:

P. I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

R.-For the Lord God is a sun and shield;

P. The Lord will give grace and glory;

R. And no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

P. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. Because he hath set his heart on me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high because he hath known my name. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God. Thou turnest man to destruction and sayest, Return, ye children of men: For a thousand years in thy sight, are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach
