you lawful Husband and Wife; and, what God has joined, let not man put asunder. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE SICK.

Most Merciful Father; thy days are without end, and thy mercies cannot be numbered. We pray thee, teach us to feel how constantly, and how entirely, we are dependent upon thee for life, and health, and all that makes life desirable or comfortable. We know that we are weak and feeble, frail and perishing mortals; and we bless thee, that thou art mighty, and that thou changest not. O Lord, may we rest in the assurance, that thy goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives; and that although we are tried and afflicted, yet, thy loving kindness shall not be utterly taken from us, nor thy faithfulness fail. In thy wisdom, O Lord, it hath pleased thee to lay thy chastening hand upon

this, thy servant, and to bring his [or her] strength to weakness by sickness and distress. We pray, that while the body is weak, the spirit may be strong in the Lord. Give to him [or her] patience and resignation to thy holy will. If consistent with thy good pleasure, we pray that this sickness may not be unto death, but that he [or she] may be restored again to health and soundness of body, and to the discharge of the accustomed duties of life. But if thou hast otherwise determined, we pray, O Lord, that thou wilt give to him [or her] that strong reliance upon thee which shall enable him [or her] to meet the great change with resignation, and in peace.

May his [or her] soul be stayed on thee, and full of confidence in thy neverfailing and all-sufficient grace; and may thy holy Gospel be his [or her] comfort and support, when all else shall fail.

Be pleased, O Lord, to bless this family, and sanctify unto them, this, and all the dispensations of thy providence. Guide

us all, by the counsels of thy wisdom and love, through the changes and vicissitudes of life, and bring us, at last, to thy kingdom above, through Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

PRAYER FOR A SICK CHILD.

Our Father in Heaven; in thy word thou hast taught us to call upon thee in the day of trouble, and hast promised that thou wilt hear and deliver us. Great is thy faithfulness, O Lord, and thou art our strength when our hearts fail us. We offer our supplications to thee, our Help and our Redeemer, in behalf of this tender lamb of thy flock, whom it hath pleased thee to visit with sickness and distress. May it please thee, O Heavenly Father, to bless the means that are used for its recovery to health, so that it may yet live to bless and adorn this family circle. Spare, O Lord, spare these parents the bitter cup, that they must drink in the death of one so dear

and precious to their souls; nevertheless, help thou them to pray, "Father, not our will, but thine be done." May they remember, that thou hast given them the precious treasure for a season, and it is meet that thou shouldst take it to thyself, when it seemeth good in thy sight. And O God, wilt thou give them a faith so strong, that they may never murmur or complain, but always be reconciled to the allotments of thy providence. In the exercise of that faith, may they give this child to thee, from whom it came, and say, in meekness of spirit, It is the Lord, let him do according to his good pleasure. Be thou near to this family, ever and always. Prepare them, by thy grace, for all the duties and all the trials of life; and save them at last, with an everlasting salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FORM FOR A FUNERAL.

PASTOR. Beloved Friends: We have assembled to sympathize with this afflicted family, and to pay the last tribute to the earthly remains of a departed fellow-being. Let us devoutly and reverently attend to the Holy Scriptures, which are given for our instruction and comfort.

Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward. The Lord killeth, and maketh alive; he bringeth down to the grave and bringeth up. Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth. My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, neither be weary of his correction; for whom the Lord loveth, he correcteth, even as the father, the son in whom he delighteth. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while
