1 HE reigns! the Lord, the Saviour reigns!

Praise Him in evangelic strains : Let the whole earth in songs rejoice, And distant islands join their voice. 2 Deep are His counsels, and unknown; But grace and truth support His throne; Though gloomy clouds His ways surround,

Justice is their eternal ground.

3 In robes of judgment, lo, He comes, Shakes the wide earth, and cleaves the tombs !

Before Him burns devouring fire; The mountains melt, the seas retire ! 4 His enemies, with sore dismay,

Fly from the sight, and shun the day: Then lift your heads, ye saints, on high, And sing, for your redemption 's nigh! 12

Psalm 97.

1 THE Lord is King! lift up thy voice,
O earth, and all ye heavens, rejoice!
From world to world the joy shall ring:
The Lord omnipotent is King!

2 The Lord is King! who then shall dare
Resist His will, distrust His care!
Holy and true are all His ways;
Let every creature speak His praise.

3 The Lord is King! exalt your strains, Ye saints; your God, your Father, reigns;

One Lord, one empire, all secures ;
He reigns and life and death are

yours.

4 O when His wisdom can mistake, His might decay, His love forsake, Then may His children cease to sing The Lord omnipotent is King!

1 STAND up, my soul, shake off thy fears,
And gird the gospel armor on;
March to the gates of endless joy,
Where Jesus, thy great Captain's gone.

* Hell and thy sins resist thy course,
But hell and sin are vanquished foes;
Thy Jesus nailed them to the cross,
And sung the triumph when He rose.

1 WITH all my powers of heart and tongue,

I'll praise my Maker in my song; Angels shall hear the notes I raise, Approve the song, and join the praise.

2 To God I cried when troubles rose; He heard me, and subdued my foes; He did my rising fears control, And strength diffused through all my soul.

3 I'll sing Thy truth and mercy, Lord, I'll sing the wonders of Thy word; Not all Thy works and names below So much Thy power and glory show,

1 COME, O my soul, in sacred lays, Attempt thy great Creator's praise; But O what tongue can speak His fame!

What mortal verse can reach the theme! 2 Enthroned amidst the radiant spheres, He glory, like a garment, wears; To form a robe of light divine

Ten thousand suns around Him shine. 3 In all our Maker's grand designs,

Omnipotence with wisdom shines; His works through all His wondrous frame

Bear the great impress of His name. 4 Raised on devotion's lofty wing, Do thou, my soul, His glories sing; And let His praise employ thy tongue, Till listening worlds repeat the song.

1 GIVE thanks to God, He reigns above;
Kind are His thoughts, His name is love;
His mercy ages past have known,
And ages long to come shal! own.

2 Let the redeeméd of the Lord
The wonders of His grace record;
Israel, the nation whom He chose,
And rescued from their mighty foes.
3 He feeds and clothes us all the way,
He guides our footsteps, lest we stray;
He guards us with a powerful hand,
And brings us to the heavenly land.
4 O let us, then, with joy record

The truth and goodness of the Lord; How great His works-how kind His ways!

Let every tongue pronounce His praise.

1 JESUS shall reign where'er the sun Does His successive journeys run; His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,

Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

2 For Him shall endless prayer be made,
And praises throng to crown His head;
His name like sweet perfume shall rise
With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His Name.

4 Blessings abound where'er He reigns; The prisoner leaps to lose his chains, The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are blest.

5 Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honors to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud Amen!

1 RIDE on! ride on in majesty!

Hark! all the tribes Hosanna cry:
O Saviour meek, pursue Thy road
With palms and scattered garments
strowed.

2 Ride on ride on in majesty !
In lowly pomp, ride on to die:
O Christ, Thy triumphs now begin
O'er captive death and conquered sin.

3 Ride on ride on in majesty !

The angel armies of the sky Look down with sad and wondering eyes

To see the approaching sacrifice.

Ride on ride on in majesty !
The last and fiercest strife is nigh:
The Father on his sapphire Throne
Awaits His own anointed Son.

Ride on! ride on in majesty !
In lowly pomp, ride on to die;
Bow Thy meek head to mortal pain,
Then take, O God, Thy power, and
reign,

1 DESCEND from heaven, immortal Dove!
Stoop down, and take us on Thy wings,
And mount, and bear us far above
The reach of these inferior things-

2 Beyond, beyond this lower sky,
Up where eternal ages roll,
Where solid pleasures never die,
And fruits immortal feast the soul.

3 O for a sight, a blissful sight Of our almighty Father's throne! There sits the Saviour, crowned with light,

Clothed in a body like our own.

4 Adoring saints around Him stand, And thrones and powers before Him fall;

The God shines gracious through the
Man,

And sheds sweet glories on them all.

5 O what amazing joys they feel,
While to their golden harps they sing,
And sit on every heavenly hill,
And spread the triumph of their King!

25

1 GREAT God! let all our tuneful powers Awake, and sing Thy mighty Name: Thy hand revolves our circling hoursThy hand from which our being came.

2

Seasons and moons still rolling round,
In beauteous order speak Thy praise,
And years, with smiling mercy crowned,
To Thee successive honors raise.

3 To Thee we raise the annual song,
To Thee the grateful tribute give;
Our God doth still our years prolong,
And, 'midst unnumbered deaths, we live.

4 Our life, our health, our friends, we owe
All to Thy vast, unbounded love;
Ten thousand precious gifts below,
And hope of nobler joys above.

5 Thus will we sing, till nature cease,
Till sense and language are no more,
And, after death, Thy boundless grace,
Through everlasting years adore,
