? I will be glad and rejoice in thee:

I will sing praise to thy name, O thou Most High. 3 When mine enemies are turned back,

They shall fall and perish at thy presence.

4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; Thou satest in the throne judging right.

5 Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, Thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

6 O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end:

And thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.

7 But the LORD shall endure for ever;

He hath prepared his throne for judgment.

8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness,

He shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

9 The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed,

A refuge in times of trouble.

10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: For thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

11 Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion:

Declare among the people his doings.

12 When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them:

He forgetteth not the cry of the humble.

3 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them

that hate me,

Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

14 That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion:

I will rejoice in thy salvation.

15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made:

In the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

16 The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth :

The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.

17 The wicked shall be turned into hell,

And all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten:

The expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.

19 Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail :

Let the heathen be judged in thy sight.

20 Put them in fear, O LORD:

That the nations may know themselves to be but mon.

16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil,
To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth,

And delivereth them out of all their troubles.

8 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous:

But the LORD delivereth him out of them all

20 He keepeth all his bones :

Not one of them is broken.

21 Evil shall slay the wicked:

And they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.

22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants;

And none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

PSALM XXXVI.

THE

HE transgression of the wicked saith within my heart,
That there is no fear of God before his eyes.

2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes,

Until his iniquity be found to be hateful.

2 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit : He hath left off to be wise, and to do good.

4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed,

He setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil

5 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens;

And thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

Thy righteousness is like the great mountains:
Thy judgments are a great deep:

O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

How excellent is thy loving kindness, O God!

Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy Dings

8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy ncuse, And thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

For with thee is the fountain of life:

In thy light shall we see light.

10 Oh continue thy loving kindness unto them that know thee; And thy righteousness to the upright in heart.

11 Let not the foot of pride come against me,

And let not the hand of the wicked remove me.

12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen:

They are cast down, and shall not be able to rise

1 Thou wilt show me the path of life:

1

In thy presence is fulness of joy;

At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

PSALM XVII.

JEAR the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry;

HEAR

Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence;

Let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night;

Thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing:

I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

4 Concerning the works of men,

By the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

5 Hold up my goings in thy paths,

That my footsteps slip not.

6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God:

Incline thine ear unto me and hear my speech.

7 Shew thy marvellous loving kindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee,

From those that rise up against them.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye;

Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

9 From the wicked that oppress mé,

From my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

10 They are enclosed in their own fat:

With their mouth they speak proudly.

11 They have now compassed us in our steps:

They have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;

12 Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey,

And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

13 Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down;

Deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:

14 (From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world,

Which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with they

hid treasure:

They are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. 5 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness:

I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness

28 For the LORD loveth judgment,

And forsaketh not his saints;

They are preserved forever:

But the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. 29 The righteous shall inherit the land,

And dwell therein forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, And his tongue talketh of judgment.

31 The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide.

32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, And seeketh to slay him.

33 The LORD will not leave him in his band, Nor condemn him when he is judged.

34 Wait on the LORD and keep his way,

{

And he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it 35 I have seen the wicked in great power,

And spreading himself like a green bay tree. 38 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not:

Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. 37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: For the end of that man is peace.

38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: The end of the wicked shall be cut off.

89 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble.

40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them:

{ He shall deliver them from the wicked,

And save them, because they trust in him.

[blocks in formation]

{

And he shall be blessed upon the earth:

And thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.

16 He sent from above, he took me,

He drew me out of many waters.

17 He delivered me from my strong enemy,

And from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. 18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity:

But the LORD was my stay.

19 He brought me forth also into a large place;

He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness:

According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD,

And have not wickedly departed from my God.

22 For all his judgments were before me,

Anu I did not put away his statutes from me.

23 I was also upright before him,

And I kept myself from mine iniquity.

24 Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

25 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful;

With an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

26 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure;

And with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.

27 For thou wilt save the afflicted people;

But wilt bring down high looks.

28 For thou wilt light my candle;

The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

29 For by thee I have run through a troop;

And by my God have I leaped over a wall.

30 As for God, his way is perfect:

[ocr errors]

The word of the LORD is tried:

He is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

31 For who is God save the LORD?

Or who is a rock save our God?

32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, And maketh my way perfect.

33 He maketh my feet like hind's feet,

And setteth me upon my high places.

34 He teacheth my hands to war,

35

So that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation And thy right hand hath holden me up,

And thy gentleness hath made me great.
