T is not without reason that the compiler has presumed to name the present little volume THE CHRISTIAN HYMNAL. The hymns herein contained are addressed solely to the LORD JESUS CHRIST in His Divine Humanity as the only God of heaven and earth, "in whom," as the Apostle has said, "dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily." The sublime doctrine of the Oneness of God and of His absolute Identity with our blessed Lord and Saviour, a doctrine which Prophets, Evangelists and Apostles unite in declaring in the Holy Scriptures, is that which the compiler has endeavored, before all else, to have set forth in this volume of hymns. With a view to preparing for the use of all sincere worshippers of the LORD JESUS CHRIST a Hymnal which shall, therefore, embody the doctrine that He is the INCARNATE Jehovah, and that in Him resides the fullness of the blessed Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, constituting His trinal nature of Love, Wisdom and Divine Proceeding, the compiler has not scrupled to modify or omit expressions of an import contrary to this doctrine, whenever they have been met with in the hymns selected.
