109 And our footsteps guideth;

ORD, thy word abideth,

Who its truth believeth
Light and joy receiveth.

2 When our foes are near us,
Then thy Word doth cheer us,
Word of consolation,

Message of salvation

3 When the storms are o'er us,
And dark clouds before us,
Then its light directeth
And our way protecteth.
4 Who can tell the pleasure,
Who recount the treasure,
By thy Word imparted
To the simple-hearted?
5 Word of mercy, giving
Succor to the living;
Word of life, supplying
Comfort to the dying!
6 Oh, that we discerning
Its most holy learning,

Lord, may love and fear thee,
Evermore be near thee!

8 Lord our times are in thy hand;
All our sanguine hopes have plann'd,
To thy wisdom we resign

And would mold our wills to thine.

4 Thou our daily task shalt give;
Day by day to thee we live:
So shall added years fulfill
Not our own, our Father's will.

5 0, to live exempt from care,
By the energy of prayer;

Strong by faith, with mind subdued,
Glowing yet with gratitude.

111 W My rising soul surveys,

HEN all thy mercies, gracious Lord

Transported with the view I'm lost
In wonder, love, and praise.

2 Thy Providence my life sustained,
And all my wants redressed,
When in the silent womb I lay,
Or hung upon the breast.

3 Unnumbered comforts on my soul
Thy tender care bestowed,

Before my infant heart conceived

From whom those comforts flowed.

4 While in the slippery paths of youth,
With heedless steps, I ran,

Thine arm, unseen, conveyed me safe,
From childhood up to man.

5 Through every period of my life
Thy goodness I'll pursue;

And after death, in happier worlds,
The glorious theme renew.

W

HILE thee I seek, protecting Power,
Be my vain wishes stilled

And may this consecrated hour

With better hopes be filled.

2 Thy love the power of thought bestowed;
To thee my thoughts would soar:
Thy mercy o'er my life has flowed,
That mercy I adore.

3 In each event of life, how clear
Thy ruling hand I see!

Each blessing to my soul more dear
Because conferred by thee.

4 In every joy that crowns my days,
In every pain I bear,

My heart shall find delight in praise,
Or seek relief in prayer.

5 When gladness wings my favored hour,
Thy love my thoughts shall fill;
Resigned, when storms of sorrow lower,
My soul shall meet thy will.

6 My lifted eye, without a tear,

The gathering storm shall see;

My steadfast heart shall know no fear,
That heart shall rest on thee.

113 G His wonders to perform;

OD moves in a mysterious way

He plants his footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.

2 Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust him for his grace;
Behind a frowning providence,
He hides a smiling face.

3 His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour:

The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.

4 Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan his work in vain;
God is his own interpreter,
And he will make it plain.

114 G My help forever near,

OD, my supporter, and my hope,

Thine arm of mercy held me up,
When sinking in despair.
