Where is thy victory, O grave?
And where, O death, thy sting?

SER

HYMN 160. S. M.

CERVANT of God, well done!
Rest from thy loved employ;
The battle fought, the victory won,
Enter thy Master's joy.

2.

At midnight came the cry,
"To meet thy God prepare!"

He woke and caught his Captain's eye;
Strong both in faith and prayer.

3.

Tranquil amidst alarms,

It found him in the field,

A veteran slumbering on his arms,
Beneath his red-cross shield.

4.

His sword was in his hand,

Still warm with recent fight, Ready that moment, at command, Through rock and steel to smite.

5.

His spirit, with a bound,

Left its encumbering clay;

His tent, at sunrise, on the ground,
A darkened ruin lay.

6.

The pains of death are past,
Labor and sorrow cease;

And life's long warfare closed at last,
His soul is found in peace.

7.

Soldier of Christ, well done!
Praise be thy new employ;
And while eternal ages run,
Rest in thy Saviour's joy.

MISCELLANEOUS.

HYMN 161. C. M.

LL hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown him Lord of all.

2.

Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,

Ye ransom'd from the fall, Hail him who saves you by his grace, And crown him Lord of all.

3.

Hail him ye heirs of David's line,
Whom David Lord did call,
The God incarnate! Man Divine!
And crown him Lord of all.

4.

Sinners whose love can ne'er forget
The wormwood and the gall;
Go, spread your trophies at his feet,
And crown him Lord of all.

5.

Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,

To him all majesty ascribe,

And crown him Lord of all.

6.

Oh, that with yonder sacred throng
We at his feet may fall;

We'll join the everlasting song,
And crown him Lord of all.

HYMN 162. 8s, 7s.

GOD of mercy and compassion,
Look with pity on my pain;
Hear a mournful broken spirit
Prostrate at thy feet complain;
Many are my foes, and mighty;
Strength to conquer I have none;
Nothing can uphold my goings,
But thy blessed self alone.

2.

Saviour, look on thy beloved,
Triumph over all my foes;

Turn to heavenly joy my mourning,
Turn to gladness all my woes:

Live, or die, or work, or suffer,
Let my weary soul abide,
In all changes whatsoever,

Sure and steadfast by thy side.

3.

When temptations fierce assault me,
When my enemies I find,

Sin, and guilt, and death, and Satan,
All against my soul combined;
Hold me up in mighty waters,
Keep my eye on things above,
Righteousness, divine atonement,
Peace, and everlasting love!

HYMN 163. 7s.

ARK! the song of jubilee;
Loud as mighty thunders roar,

Or the fullness of the sea,

When it breaks upon the shore: Hallelujah! for the Lord

God omnipotent shall reign;

Hallelujah! let the word

Echo round the earth and main.

2,

Hallelujah!-hark! the sound,
From the center to the skies,
Wakes above, beneath, around,
All creation's harmonies:
See Jehovah's banners furl'd;

Sheath'd his sword: he speaks, 'tis done,

And the kingdoms of this world
Are the kingdoms of his Son.

3.

He shall reign from pole to pole
With illimitable sway;

He shall reign, when, like a scroll,
Yonder heavens have pass'd away :
Then the end; beneath his rod,
Man's last enemy shall fall;
Hallelujah! Christ in God,
God in Christ, is all in all.

A

HYMN 164. 10s.

BIDE with me: fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide:

When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,

Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

2.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day: Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass

away;

Change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.

3.

I need thy presence every passing hour; What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
