3.

My trembling flesh and aching heart
May often fail to succor me;
But God shall inward strength impart,
And my eternal portion be.

HYMN 124. 88, 78.

GOD shall charge his angel legions

Watch and ward o'er thee to keep; Though thou walk through hostile regions, Though in desert wilds thou sleep.

2.

On the lion, vainly roaring,

On his young, thy foot shall tread; And, the dragon's den exploring,

Thou shalt bruise the serpent's head:

3.

Since, with pure and firm affection,
Thou on God hast set thy love,
With the wings of his protection
He will shield thee from above.

4.

Thou shalt call on him in trouble,
He will hearken, he will save;
Here for grief reward thee double,
Crown with life beyond the grave.

HYMN 125. 7s

LORD, for ever at thy side

Let my place and portion be:

Strip me of the robe of pride,
Clothe me with humility.

2.

Meekly may my soul receive
All thy Spirit hath reveal'd:
Thou hast spoken, I believe,
Though the oracle be seal'd.

3.

Humble as a little child,

Weaned from the mother's breast,
By no subtleties beguiled,
On thy faithful word I rest.

4.

Israel! now and evermore
In the Lord Jehovah trust;
Him, in all his ways, adore,
Wise, and wonderful, and just.

HYMN 126. C. M.

WHO place on Sion's God their trust,

Like Sion's rock shall stand;

Like her immovably be fix'd

By his almighty hand.

2.

Look how the hills on every side

Jerusalem enclose;

So stands the Lord around his saints,

To guard them from their foes.

3.

All those who walk in crooked paths,
The Lord shall soon destroy;
Cut off th' unjust, but crown the saints
With lasting peace and joy.

HYMN 127. 88, 7s, 48.

UIDE me, O thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty; Hold me with thy powerful hand: Bread of heaven,

Feed me till I want no more.

2.

Open thou the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing streams do flow;
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar

Lead me all my journey through:
Strong Deliverer,

Be thou still my strength and shield.

3.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside:
Death of death, and hell's destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan's side;
Songs of praises

I will ever give to thee.

HYMN 128. 7s.

"I not to live without the cross;
IS my happiness below

But the Saviour's power to know,
Sanctifying every loss.

2.

Trials must and will befall;
But with humble faith to see
Love inscribed upon them all-
This is happiness to me.

3.

Did I meet no trials here,
No chastisement by the way,
Might I not with reason fear
I should be a castaway?

4.

Trials make the promise sweet;
Trials give new life to prayer;
Bring me to my Saviour's feet,
Lay me low, and keep me there.

HYMN 129. 10s.

THOUGH troubles assail, and dangers affright,

Though friends should all fail, and foes all unite,

Yet one thing secures us, whatever betide, The promise assures us the Lord will pro

vide.

2.

The birds without barn or storehouse are

fed,

From them let us learn to trust for our

bread;

His saints what is fitting shall ne'er be

denied,

So long as 'tis written, The Lord will

provide.

8.

His call we obey, like Abram of old, We know not the way, but faith makes us bold;

For though we are strangers, we have a sure guide,

And trust in all dangers the Lord will provide.

4.

No strength of our own, nor goodness we

claim,

Our trust is alone in Jesus's name;

In this, our strong tower, for safety we hide,

The Lord is our power, the Lord will provide.

5.

When life sinks apace, and death is in

view,

The word of his grace shall comfort us through;
