Excerpt from A Portraiture of the Roman Catholic Religion, or an Unprejudiced Sketch of the History, Doctrines, Opinions, Discipline, and Present State of Catholicism: With an Appendix Containing a Summary of the Laws Now in Force Against English and Irish Catholics
The following work is divided into two parts: the first treats of the history of Ca tholicism to the time of the Reformation the second delineates the leading doctrines, and the principal branches of discipline. The views of Catholics respecting civil authority I have traced at some length, in various printed documents and the Ar ticles of Faith I have carefully collected from such works of acknowledged autho rity as have fallen in my way nor have I spared either labour or expense in pro curing correct information on these several subjects.
