8 I trusted that my future life Should with thy love be crown'd; With sorrow compass'd round. Who will inspire thy breast And leave to him the rest. PSALM 23. C. M. From the viii. Psalm of David. 1 ADORED for ever be the LORD; His praise I will resound, A gracious answer found. Has trusted in his Name; His praises shall proclaim. Is my defence and rock, Of his anointed flock.. Thy heritage preserve; That they may never swerve. 1 YE that in might and power excel, Your grateful sacrifice prepare; His wondrous power to all declare. 2 To his great Name fresh altars raise ; Devoutly due respect afford ; Him in his holy temple praise, Where he's with solemn state adored. 3 'T is he that, with amazing noise, The watery clouds in sunder breaks; The ocean trembles at his voice, When he from heaven in thunder speaks. 4 How full of power his voice appears ! With what majestic terror crown'd! Which from their roots tall cedars tears, And strews their scatter'd branches round. 5 God rules the angry floods on high; His boundless sway shall never cease ; His saints with strength he will supply, And bless his own with constant peace. PSALM 25. C. M. I IN my distress" to God I cried, Who kindly did relieve, My hopeless life retrieve. With songs of praise repair ; And providential care. His favor no decay ; With joy's returning day. Thy praise in grateful verse; PSALM 26. S. M. From the xxxi. Psalm of David. For still I trust in thee; From danger set me free. 2 Bow down thy gracious ear, And speedy succor send ; To shelter and defend, 3 To thee, the God of truth, My life, and all that 's mine, (For thou preserv'st me from my youth,) I willingly resign. I on thy help repose : My soul with comfort knows. 5 Whate'er events betide, Thy wisdom times them all; From those that seek his fall, 6 The brightness of thy face To me, O LORD, disclose; Preserve me from my foes. 7 How great thy mercies are To such as fear thy Name, Which thou, for those that trust thy care, Dost to the world proclaim! 8 O all ye saints, the LORD Courageously proceed; For he will still your hearts supply 1 HE 'S blest, whose sins have pardon gain'd, 2 No sooner I my wound disclosed, The harden'd sinner shall confound; PSALM 28. From the xxxiii. Psalm of David. PART I. C. M. 1 LET all the just to GOD, with joy, 2 Let harps, and psalteries, and lutes, And new-made songs of loud applause 3 For faithful is the word of God; 4 By his almighty word at first, The heavenly arch was rear'd; And all the beauteous hosts of light At his command appear'd. 5 Let earth, and all that dwell therein, Before him trembling stand; For, when he spake the word, 't was made, "T was fix'd at his command. PART II. C. M. 1 WHATE'ER the mighty LORD decrees, The settled purpose of his heart 2 How happy then are they, to whom Whom he, from all the world besides, 3 Our soul on GOD with patience waits; Then, LORD, let still our hearts rejoice, 4 The riches of thy mercy, Lord, PSALM 29. From the xxxiv. Psalm of David. PART I. C. M. 1 THROUGH all the changing scenes of life, In trouble and in joy, The praises of my GOD shall still My heart and tongue employ. 2 Of his deliv'rance I will boast, Till all that are distress'd From my example comfort take, And charm their griefs to rest. 3 0 magnify the LORD with me, With me exalt his name: When in distress to him I call'd, He to my rescue came. 4 The Angel of the LORD encamps Around the good and just; Deliv'rance he affords to all Who on his succor trust. 5 0 make but trial of his love, How blest they are, and only they, 6 Fear him, ye saints; and you will then Make you his service your delight, PART II. C. M. 1 Approach, ye children of the LORD, I'll teach you the true discipline 2 Let him who length of life desires, And prosp'rous days would see, His lips from falsehood free; And virtue's ways pursue; And where 't is lost, renew. With favorable eyes ; Is open to their cries; Whom mercy can't reclaim, Blot out their evil name. When his relief they crave; And contrite spirit save. Yet God will save them still ; And guard from every ill. Their ruin shall derive; Whilst righteous men, whom they detest, Shall them and their's survive. Who on his truth depend; His blessings shall descend. PSALM 30. L. M. From the xxxvi. Psalm of David. The highest orb of heaven transcends; Beyond the spreading sky extends. 2 Thy justice like the hills remains, Únfathom’d depths thy judgments are; Thy providence the world sustains, The whole creation is thy care." 3 Since of thy goodness all partake, With what assurance should the just And saints to thy protection trust ! To banquet on thy love's repast; And drink, as from a fountain's head, Of joys that shall for ever last. |
