The B-24 bomber shown at the top of the double page spread on pages 60 and 61 is THE GREEN HORNET (serial # 42-40101). The First Pilot was my father, 1st Lt Herbert T. Kurz. The picture was painted in mid-1943 on Eastern Island of Midway Atoll after a mission to bomb Wake Island. Crewmwmbers saw the artist and talked to him. He identified himself and told them to watch for publication. THE GREEN HORNET was one of the bombers on the first strike against Nauru on 20 April 1943 (as part of the 371st Bomb Squadron). At the time of this picture the plane was part of the 98th Bomb Squadron (H), 11th Bomb Group of the 7th Air Force. Herbert just turned 91 and recorded this story in his notes on the Pacific War.
