T the parliament begun and bolden at Weftminster, the twenty-ninth day of November, Anno Domini 1774, in the fifteenth year of the reign of our fovereign lord GEORGE the Third, by the grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, defender of the faith, &c. And from thence continued by feveral prorogations, to the twenty-fixth day of November, 1778; being the fifth feffion of the fourteenth parliament of Great Britain.

CA P. I.

An act for further continuing an act, made in the feventeenth year of the reign of his prefent Majefty, intituled, An act to impower his Majefty to secure and detain perfons charged with, or fufpected of, the crime of high treafon, committed in any of his Majesty's colonies or plantations in America, or on the high feas, or the crime of piracy.

HEREAS an act was made in the Seventeenth year of Preamble. the reign of his present Majesty, (intituled, An act to 17 Geo. III. impower his Majefty to fecure and detain perfons charged with, cap. 9. recited, or suspected of, the crime of high treafon, committed in any of his Majesty's colonies or plantations in America, or on the high feas, or the crime of piracy;) which was to continue and be in force until the first day of January, one thousand seven hundred and feventy eight, and no longer: and whereas an act was made in the last Seffions of parliament for continuing the faid act until the first day of January, one thoufand seven hundred and feventy-nine, and no longer: VOL. and whereas it is expedient that the faid first-mentioned at should be continued for a further term; may it therefore please your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's most excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this prefent parliament affembled, and by the authority of the fame, that the faid first-mentioned act, and all and every the clauses, provifoes, powers, and qualifications therein contained, fhall be, and the fame are hereby further continued until the firft day of January, one thousand seven hundred and eighty, and no longer.

An act for granting an aid to his Majefty by a land tax, to be raised in Great Britain, for the fervice of the year one thousand feven hundred and seventy-nine. At four fillings in the pound.

An act for continuing and granting to his Majefty certain duties upon malt, mum, cyder, and perry, for the fervice of the year one thousand leven hundred and feventy-nine.

CA P. IV.

An act for granting further time for allowing the drawback upon the exportation of certain muflins, callicoes, and coffee. HEREAS there are great quantities of muflins and white callicoes ftill remaining in the kingdom, which were imported by the united company of merchants of England trading to the East Indies, which, by reafon of the interruption given to trade by the rebellion and disturbances fubfifting in feveral of the British colonies in North America, the proprietors of fuch goods have not been, and may not be able to export within the term of three years from the importation thereof, being the time limited by law to intitle them to receive the drawback of the duties thereon; and it is reasonable and necessary that some further time fhould be granted for the exportation of fuch goods; may it therefore please your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's moft excellent majesty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this prefent parliament affembled, and by the authority of the fame, That, for all muslins and white callicoes which were imported by the faid mited by law for paying the united company into this kingdom, in the years one thoufand drawback on feven hundred and feventy-three, one thousand seven hundred the exportati and feventy four, and one thousand feven hundred and feventyand white cal- five, and which fhall be exported from hence before the thirtieth I coes, extend- day of December, one thoufand feven hundred and eighty; and for all muflins and white callicoes imported into this kingdom by the faid united company, in the years one thoufand feven hundred and feventy-fix, and one thousand seven hundred and feventy-feven, and which fhall be exported from hence before the thirtieth day of December, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-one; and for all muflins and white callicoes which have been exported from this kingdom, and which were returned

here for want of a market abroad, on or before the thirtieth day of December, one thousand seven hundred and seventy five, and which shall be re-exported again from hence before the thirtieth day of December, one thousand seven hundred and eighty, whether fuch muflins or callicoes fhall have been printed, painted, stained or dyed, in this kingdom, or not, the exporter or exporters of such goods fhall be allowed and paid the fame drawbacks, under the like rules, regulations, fecurities, penalties, and forfeitures, as fuch exporter or exporters would be intitled and liable to, in cafe fuch goods had been exported within the term of three years from the importation or return thereof; any law, custom, or ufage, to the contrary notwithstanding.

II. And whereas by an act, made in the fixteenth year of the reign 16 Geo. III. of his prefent Majefty, (intituled, An act for granting further time cap 51, recitfor allowing the drawback upon the exportation of muflins ed. and callicoes imported by the East India company in the years one thousand feven hundred and feventy-three, and one thoufand seven hundred and feventy-four; for allowing further time to the faid company to expofe to fale fuch bohea and finglo teas and coffee as remained unfold on the fifth day of April, one thousand seven hundred and feventy-fix; and alfo fuch bohea teas as shall be imported on or before a certain time; and for allowing the drawbacks on the exportation of fuch teas and coffee; and for granting further time for allowing the drawback on the exportation of coffee imported in the thip Shrewf bury, in the year one thousand seven hundred and feventythree,) it was, amongst other things, enacted, that, for and during the term of five years, to be computed from the time of importation, there should be drawn back and allowed, for all coffee which should be exported from this kingdom as merchandize to Ireland, or any of the • British colonies or plantations in America, to the exporter or exporters thereof, fuch and the fame drawbacks or allowances, and under fuch rules, regulations, fecurities, penalties, and forfeitures, as fuch exporter or exporters would have been intitled to in cafe fuch coffee had been exported within the term of three years from the times of the importation thereof: and whereas very small quantities of coffee are exported from this kingdom to Ireland or the plantations, the principal and chief of fuch exportations being to Germany, and other parts of Europe; and it is expedient that the faid in part recited act should extend to other foreign parts; be it therefore enacted by the authority aforefaid, that the faid in part recited act shall Part of the extend, and be conftrued to extend, to allow the like drawback faid act, relafor coffee which have been exported from this kingdom to drawback on any ting to the any foreign parts, fince the fifth day of April, one thousand the exportafeven hundred and feventy-fix, and which then remained in the tion of coffee faid company's warehoufes unfold, or which fhall be hereafter fo to Ireland or exported to any foreign parts within the term of five years tended to America, exfrom the importation thereof, under the fame rules and regulati- other foreign ons, fecurities penalties, and forfeitures, as the former draw- Parts. back was allowed; any thing in the said recitedact, or any other act, to the contrary notwithstanding.

An act for granting relief to the captors of prizes, with respect to bringing and landing certain French prizes in this kingdom.

HEREAS his Majefty, by order in council, dated the twenty-ninth day of July, one thousand seven hundred and Seventy-eight, was pleased to order that general reprisals be granted against the fhips, goods, and fubjects, of the French king, and that as well all his Majesty's fleets and ships, as alfo all other ships and veffels that fhall be commiffioned, by letters of marque or general reprifals or otherwife, by the commiffioners for executing the office of lord high admiral of Great Britain, shall and may lawfully feize all ships, veffels, and goods belonging to the French king or his fubjects, or others inhabiting within any of the territories of the French king, and bring the fame to judgement in any of his Majesty's court of almiralty within his Majesty's dominions: and whereas it is expedient that the feveral provifions of an act made in the last feffion of parliament, (intituled, An act for the relief of the captors of prizes, with respect to the bringing and landing certain prize goods in this kingdom) fhould be extended in like manner to all prize goods which have been, or may be, taken from the French, in pursuance of his Majefty's faid order in counfel; may it therefore please your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the king's most excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this prefent parliament af18 Geo. III. fembled, and by the authority of the fame, That the faid recited act, made in the laft feffion of parliament, and all the articles, clauses, and provifions therein, fhall extend, and be conftrued to extend, to all prize goods which have been taken from the French fince the twenty-ninth day of July, one thouJuly 29, 1778, fand seven hundred and feventy eight, or which thall hereafter be taken, during the continuance of the prefent hoftilities with France, by any of his Majefty's fhips or veifels of war, or by any private or other fhip or veffel having commiffion or other authority from the lord high admiral of Great Britain, or the commiffioners for executing the office of lord high admiral of Great Britain, for the time being, for that purpose.

III.
