Preamble. Letters patent of the 7 James 1. recited. Soon after the date date thereof, Hick's Hall was built, &c. The inheritance of the fcite of Hick's Hall in the Cuftos Rotulorum and others. The prefent feffionhouse inconvenient and ruinous. Commiffioners appointed, who are to take down the prefent feffion-house, and use or feil the materials. The fcite of the prefent feffion-house to be given to the publick. Commiffioners for Saint Sepulchre's to pave the fcite of the prefent feffion-house, and adjoining watch-houfe, &c. who fhall be paid 300l. for the fame, out of the monies arifing by this act. Commiffioners may purchase a piece of ground for building the feffion-houfe. Bodies corporate, &c. enabled to convey their eftates to the commiffioners. If the parties thall not agree, &c. the recompence to be ascertained by a jury. Jurymen to be fworn. Witneffes may be examined on oath. Verdict of a jury, &c. to be final. Recompence to be paid to parties within a month after adjudication. On refusal to accept thereof, the fame to be paid into the bank. Jurors may be challenged. Commiffioners may fine the fheriff or others making default. Commiffioners may caufe any building on fuch piece of ground as they hall purchase, to be taken down; and a new feffion-house to be erected; which fhall not be affeffed to any tax at a higher rate than what the ground and buildings were affeffed in 1777. The fellion-house not to be begun till a plan and eftimate are made and agreed to. Occupation of the feffion-house to be regulated by the juftices. New feffion-houle to be repaired out of the county rate. No repairs above 51. to be done until an eftimate and contract made and agreed to. Juftices may provide a convenient place for holding their feffions until the new feffion houfe be built. Damaging the new feffion-house deemed felony. Recital of act & 6 Gul. & Mar. creating the orphans' fund; act 21 Geo. 2. continuing the duty on coals; act 7 Geo. 3. for compleating Blackfriars bridge, &c. By the last-mentioned act, the corporation of London were impowered to burrow 156,000l. on the credit of the orphans' fund; and the duty of 6 d. per chaldron on coals and culm was further continued for 46 years. Said fund computed to be more than fufficient for the purposes to which it is applied. City of London to pay an annuity of 4951. to the commiffioners for executing this act. The mayor, &c. to grant 110 bonds for fecuring the annuity. An annuity of 41. 10 s. to be payable on each bond. Bonds to be numbered, and affignable by indorfement. Annuities to be redeemable by the city on fix months notice. Orphans' fund charged with the annuities. Treasurer of the county to pay to the commiffioners fo much money as fhall be neceffary (befides the aforefaid 11,000]) for executing the purposes of this act; fo as the fame fhall not exceed 4000l. Expences of this act how to be paid. Commiffioners may appoint officers, and allow them falaries. Place and time of meeting of the commiffioners. Manner of adjourning. Proceedings to be entered in a book, &c. A yearly account of all monies received and paid, to be made by the treafurer, and depofited with the clerk of the peace; and also all books, plans, &c. An act for building a bridge across the river Tawey, at a place called The Wich Tree, in the parish of Llanfamlett, to the oppofite fhore in the parish of Llangevelach, in the county of Glamorgan; for making proper avenues or roads to and from the faid bridge; and alfo for repairing and widening the road from Pentre-brook, near a place called Aberdwyberthy, in the parish of Saint John's, near Swanfea, to the faid intended bridge.

CA P. LXXI.

An act for impowering the mayor, aldermen, aud commons, of the city of
London, in common council affembled, to make a street or opening from
Moorfields, oppofite Chifwell-ftreet, towards the east into Bishopsgate-
ftreet; and alfo from the east end of Chifwell-treet weftward into Bar-
bican; and to raife, upon the credit of the furpluffes to arise out of a
certain fund, commonly called The Orphans' Fund, the fum of fixteen
thousand five hundred pounds for fuch purpose.

Preamble. Act 9 Geo. 3. recited. Common council impowered to make
a new street from Moorfields to Bishopfgate-ftreet, &c. which may be raised
to any height they think proper Ditches and watercourfes to be arched
over or filled up; and drains or fewers to be made, &c. Common coun-
cil impowered to purchase houfes, lands, &c. for the purposes aforefaid.
The faid power limited to ten years. Bodies politick, &c. trustees, and
other perfons, impowered to fell and convey lands, &c. when parties refuse
to treat, &c. the mayor's court to iffue a precept for impanelling a jury;
who are to be drawn as act 3 Geo. 2. directs. Jurors may be challenged.
Witnesses may be examined on oath. &c. Jury to affefs the value on oath.
Verdict of the jury, &c. to be final. Previous notice to be given to parties
interested. Upon payment of the value affeffed, premises to be conveyed
to the city. When a good title cannot be made, or legal conveyances exe-
cuted, or the parties are not to be found, &c. court to order the purchase
money to be paid into the bank, &c. fubject to the order of the court of
chancery on motion or petition. Verdicts and judgements, &c. to be en-
tered among the records, &c. Immediately after verdicts and payments,
&c. premises to veft in the city. Mayor's court, on petition, may
invest the money in the publick funds. If the money is not paid, &c. the
faid verdicts and judgements not to be binding. Purchase-monies of pre-
miles held in truit, to be invested in other purchases to the fame ufes.
Bargains and fales to have the force of fines and recoveries. Perfons hav-
ing any right, &c. in lands fo purchased, to enter their claims within a li-
mited time, or be barred: but may recover the purchase money, &c. from
perfons receiving the fame. After purchase, tenants to deliver poffeffion
within fix months after notice. On refufal, court to issue a precept to the
Sheriff to deliver poffeffion. Mortgagees, on tender of principal and in-
tereft, to convey their mortgages: on refufal, intereft to ceafe. Upon pay.
ment of fuch principal and intereft into the bank, premifes to velt in the
city. Monies to be paid or tendered before ufing the premifes. Court of
aldermen may fine fheriff, jurors, or witneffes, for not attending, &c
perfon thall be compeliable to feil part of his premifes, if he is willing to
fell the whole Common council impowered to let, fell, &c. any ground
not necessary for the purposes of this act; and to grant licences for build-
ing on part of the streets, &c. No porticoes, benches, balconies, bow-
windows, or other projections to be made. Monies arifing by fuch fales
or licences to be appropriated to the purpofes of this act. Common coun-
cil may inclose the paffages, &c. which adjoin to the intended streets, for
the purposes of this act. Tithes of houfes laid into ftreets to be valued by
a jury, and charged on the city eltates. Common council impowered to
appoint committees. Perfons interefted not eligible on fuch committees.
Persons not free of the city may be employed by committees. Directions
for giving notice of contracts. Recital of an act 5 & 6 Gul. & Mar, for
raising the orphans' fund. A duty of 6 d. per chaldron laid on all coals
and culm brought into the port of London. Act 31 Geo. 2. continuing
the faid duty for 35 years, &c. Act 29 Geo. 2. for building Blackfriars
bridge: act 7 Geo, 3. for completing the fame, &c. On July 5, 1776,
58,500l. wanted to complete Blackfriars bridge, &c. 7,500 l. for embank-
ing the Thames; 30,000l, for redeeming the tolls on London-bridge;
go,ocol. for building Newgate; and 10,000l. for 1epairing the Royal Ex-
change. Recital of the powers granted to the corporation of London by
the act of 7 Ge0.3. 156,000l. to be borrowed at 31. 1os. per cent. per ann.

City anfwerable in cafe of any mifapplication of the monies. Amerciaments, &c. against the city to be applicable to the ufes of this act, &c. An act for erecting a building for holding the courts and exercising the ju.
risdiction of the dean and chapter of the collegiate church of Saint Peter
in Westminster, within the city and liberty of Westminster, and for
holding the quarter feffions of the peace and tranfacting the other pub-
lick business of the faid city and liberty; and for appropriating part of
the furpluffes of the orphans' fund, towards defraying the expence thereof.

CA P. LXXIII.

An act for paving the high street or road leading from Alderfgate-bars, in the parish of Saint Botolph without Alderfgate, London, to the turnpike near the end of Gofwell-street, in the county of Middlesex; and for applying the fum of five thousand pounds, to be raised upon the credit of the furpluffes to arife out of a certain fund commonly called The Orphans' Fund, for fuch purpose.

Preamble. Recital of act 5 & 6 Gul. & Mar. for establishing the orphans' fund. A duty of 6 d. per chaldron laid on all coals or culm brought into the port of London. A&t 21 Geo. 2. by which the faid duty was further continued for 35 years. At 29 Geo. 2. for building Blackfriars bridge. A&t 7 Geo. 3, for completing the faid bridge, &c. CA P. LXXIV.

An act to amend an act, paffed in the twenty-fixth year of King George the Second, more effectually to enable the parishioners of the parish of Christchurch, in the county of Middlefex, to purchase, hire, or erect a workhoufe, for the employing and maintaining the poor of the faid parish, and for the more effectual fupport and employment of the poor therein.

An act for making a navigable canal from the town of Basingstoke, in the county of Southampton, to communicate with the river Wey, in the parish of Chertsey, in the county of Surrey; and to the south-eaft fide of the turnpike road in the parish of Turgifs, in the faid county of Southampton.

An act for better paving, cleanfing, lighting, and watching, the streets and lanes in the town of Dover, in the county of Kent, and in the feveral parishes of St. Mary the Virgin and St. James the Apoftle in the said town and county; and for removing and preventing nuifances and annoyances therein.

CA P. LXXVII.

An act for paving and repairing the ftreets, lanes, and other publick paffages and places, within fuch part of the liberty of Norton Folgate, in the county of Middlefex, as is extra-parochial; and certain parts of Magpie-alley, and Bloffom-ftreet, in the parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch, in the faid county; and for removing obftructions and annoyances therein.

CA P. LXXVIII.

An act for applying the fum of nine thousand pounds, to arife out of the furpluffes of a certain fund, commoly called The Orphans' Fund, for the purpose of making a paffage for carriages from Spitalfields to Bifhopfgate-street, in the county of Middlesex.

Preamble. Act 5 & 6 Gul. & Mar. recited. City of London to pay an annuity of 4051. to the commiffioners; and for that purpose to iffue bonds under their common feal. Value and condition of the bonds. Bonds to be numbered, and may be fold. Application of the money arifing from fale thereof. Annuities to be redeemable by the city on fix months notice. The orphans' fund charged with the payment of the annuities. Perfons advancing money to pay expences of this act, to be allowed intereft for the fame. Publick act.
