:: W. BY THE
REV. CANON THOMPSON, M.A., D.D.,
Rector of St. Saviour's, ard:cháneelor af the Collegiate Church.
THE larger Edition, and the Edition with Appendix, of
T “ The History and Antiquities of the Collegiate Church of St. Saviour (St. Marie Overie), Southwark," being now out of print, the present revised Epitome is issued in order to save the visitor from being misled by inefficient and inaccurate “ Guides to London.”
The letterpress portion brings the history up to the present time, and although one or two of the illustrations belong to the period anterior to the restoration of the Church, it has been thought advisable, nevertheless, to retain them, in order that the structural and other alterations which have been effected may be the more clearly seen and noted.
For illustrations of an excellent character, and up to date, the reader is referred to Mr. Dovaston's small Book of Views of St. Saviour's, with “ Notes” by the present writer. The one book may be regarded as the complement of the other, and both may be obtained in the Vestry of the Parish Church.
N.B.-A fresh issue of the large edition, referred to above, thoroughly revised, and containing much addsticriar natier, and many new illustrastions, is in course of preparation, and will appear shortly, when some * further contemplated alteratioris in the Church shall have been carried out.
