to operate, the oparations are connected with the representatives of the persons intreated, or commanded, and those representatives may either be expressed or understood.

Moreover the verbs, of nouns addressed operating are attached to thou, or ye, or you being the representative of the person, or persons addressed.

33. THEY,-They represents agents, of which a speaker speaks, and representing them takes the verb. Ex.: "And, thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of thy hands, they shall perish, but thou remainest, and they all shall wax old, as doth a garment, and as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall remain."

Lord is the agent addressed: thou is the representative of Lord, and connected with the verb, hast laid; they is the representative of heavens, and connected with the verb shall perish; thou is the representative of Lord, and takes the verb remainest; they, the representative of heavens takes the verb shalt wax; thou, the representative of Lord, takes the verb shalt fold, and thou is the representative of Lord, and takes the verb art.

Heavens, not represented the passage would be, and thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the works of thine hands, the heavens shall perish, but thou remainest; and all the heavens shall wax old, as doth a garment, and as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and the heavens shall be changed. Thus the representatives of agents prevent the repetition of agents.

34. OBJECTS.-Nouns on which operations fall are objects.

35. ME.-Me represents a speaking object. Ex.: " Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts."

The Psalmist is the speaking object, on which search falls; me, the representative of the Psalmist; heart, is the object, on which know falls; the Psalmist is the speaking object, on which try falls; me is the repre sentative of the Psalmist, thoughts are the object of know Search, know, try and know, are operations, or verbs,

36. THEE.-Thee represents an addressed object. Ex.: "Before I formed thee in the Belly, I knew thee." Jeremiah is the addressed object, on which formed falls; thee is the representative of Jeremiah; Jeremiah is the addressed object, on which knew falls; thee is the representative of Jeremiah. Formed and knew are oper

ations.

37. HIM.-Him represents a male object, of which a speaker speaks.

66

Ex.: For I know him, that he will command his children, and his household after him; and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraham, that, which he hath spoken of him."

Abraham is the object, of which the Lord speaks; him is the representative, and know is the operation falling upon Abraham; way is the object of the operation keep; and justice and judgment are the objects of the operation, to do: children are the object of the operation, command.

38. HER.—Her represents a female object, of which a speaker speaks.

Ex.: " And God said unto Abraham, as for Sarai, thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be, and I will bless her."

Sarah is the object, of which the almighty speaks; bless is the operation falling upon Sarah, and her is the representative of Sarah.

39. Us.-Us represents speaking objects.

[blocks in formation]

The Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty

The Israelites are the speaking object, of the operation, brought us is the representative of Israelitos.

40. You. You represents addressed objects. Ex.: "And he declared unto you his covenant, whch he commanded you to perform.'

The Israelites are the addressed objects, of the operation commanded; you represents the Israelites. In the Scriptures, and in Milton, ye frequently represents objects addressed.

THEM.-Them represents objects, of which a speaker speaks.

Ex.: "The Lord is a man of war-the Lord is his name-Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea; his chosen captains also are drowned in the red sea; the depths have covered them."

Chariots, host, and captains are the objects of the operation have covered; them is the representative of chariot, host and captains.

Should the objects be introduced instead of the re presentative, them, the passage would stand thus-the depths have covered Pharaoh's chariots, and his host, and his chosen captains.

42. ANTECEDENTS.-Antecedents are persons and things, which are represented by representatives-I, thou, he, she, we, and they, represent antecedents, which are agents; but me, thee, him, her, us, and them, represent antecedents, which are objects.

I, thou, he, she, we, and they, are agents of verbs, of which their antecedents would otherwise be agents, and me, thee, him, her, us, and them, are objects of verbs, of which their antecedents would otherwise be ojects.

Thus, I, thou, he, she, we, and they, are agents for their antecedents, and me, thee, him, her, us, and them, are objects for their antecedents.

1, thou, he, she, we, and they, can operate; but me, thee, him, her, us, and them, can not operate; then attach operations to I, thou, he, she, we, and they; but do not attach operations, to me, thee, him, her, us, and them. Operations may fall upon, me, thee, him, her, us, and them, but none of them can operate. As, "I love him," there love is attached to I, and falls upon him—then I is the agent, and him is the object; "he loves me,” he is the agent of loves, and me is the object; "I love thee," I is the agent of love, thee is the object of love.

It represents what is regarded as being neither male nor female, and has the same form, when an agent as when an object, and ye or you has the same form when an agent, as when an object; moreover, ye or you, alike represents one person, or more than one person.

“I shall see him, but not now, I shall behold him but not nigh, there shall come a star out of Jacob, and a sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth." I operates shall see, and shall behold; star operates shall come, and sceptre operates shall rise: then shall see, shall be hold, shall come, and shall rise, are verbs in the indicative mood, and future tense.
