1 A MORNING. 1 PART I. WAKE, my soul! and with the sun L.M. 2 Redeem thy misspent time that's past, PART II. 1 LORY to Thee who safe hast kept, L.M. And hast refreshed me while I slept; Grant, Lord! when I from death shall wake, I may of endless light partake. 2 Lord! I my vows to Thee renew, Scatter my sins as morning dew; Guard my first springs of thought and will, And with Thyself my spirit fill. 3 Direct, control, suggest this day That all my powers with all their might 4 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow ! 1 2 BEHOLD the morning sun S.M. His beams through all the nations run, 2 But where the gospel shines, It calls dead sinners from their tombs, 3 How perfect is Thy word, And all Thy judgments just! 4 I hear Thy word with love, Send Thy good Spirit from above 5 While with my heart and tongue 1 3 AY by day the manna fell : DAY O to learn this lesson well! 2 Lord! my times are in Thy hand! And would make Thy purpose mine. 7s. 3 Thou my daily task shalt give: By the energy of prayer; Strong in faith, with mind subdued, 4 FORTH in Thy name, O Lord! we go Thee, only Thee, resolved to know, And In all our works Thy presence find, prove Thy good and perfect will. 3 Thee may we set at our right hand, Whose eyes our inmost substance see, And labour on at Thy command, And offer all our works to Thee. 4 Give us to bear Thy easy yoke, And every moment watch and pray; And still to things eternal look, And hasten to Thy glorious day. 5 For Thee delightfully employ L.M. Whate'er Thy bounteous grace hath given; And closely walk with Thee to heaven. 5 1 OD of my life! through all its days GOD L.M. My grateful powers shall sound Thy praise; The song shall wake with opening light, And cheer the dark and silent night. 2 When anxious cares invade my rest, 4 But oh! when that last conflict's o'er, 1 6 NEW every morning is the love L.M. Our wakening and uprising prove; Through sleep and darkness safely brought, Restored to life, and power, and thought. 2 New mercies, each returning day, Hover around us while we pray; New perils past, new sins forgiven, New thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven. 3 If on our daily course our mind Be set to hallow all we find, New treasures still, of countless price, 4 The trivial round, the common task, 5 Seek we no more: content with these, As Heaven shall bid them, come and go; 6 Only, O Lord! in Thy dear love 1 0 JESU! Lord of heavenly grace, L.M. Thou brightness of Thy Father's face, Thou fountain of eternal light, Whose beams disperse the shades of night! 2 Come, Holy Sun of heavenly love! Shower down Thy radiance from above; And to our inward hearts convey The Holy Spirit's cloudless ray. 3 May faith, deep rooted in the soul, Subdue our flesh, our minds control; May guile depart, and discord cease, And all within be joy and peace. 4 Oh hallowed be the approaching day! Let meekness be our morning ray, And faithful love our noon-day light, And hope our sunset, calm and bright. 50 Christ! with each returning morn, Thine image to our hearts is borne; Oh! may we ever clearly see Our Saviour and our God in Thee! 8 L.M. 10THOU! to whose all-searching sight The darkness shineth as the light; Search, prove my heart; it pants for Thee; Oh! burst these bonds, and set it free! 2 As through this wilderness I stray, Be thou my Light, be Thou my Way; No foes, no evil, need I fear, If Thou, my Lord! my God! art near. 3 When rising floods my soul o'erflow, When sinks my heart in waves of woe, Jesu! Thy timely aid impart, To raise my head, and cheer my heart. 4 Teach me, where'er Thy steps I see, Dauntless, untired, to follow Thee; C |
