Patience and Meekness.
1 THOU Lamb of God, Thou Prince of Peace,
For Thee my thirsty soul doth pine;
O make me in 'Thy likeness, shine !
2 With fraudless, even, humble mind,
Thy will in all things may I see;
And hallow'd my whole heart to Thee.
3 When pain o'er my weak flesh prevails,
With lamb-like patience arm my breast;
In lowly meekness may I rest.
Howe'er life's various current flow;
And follow Thee where'er Thou go.
5 Thou, LORD, the dreadful fight hast won;
Alone Thou hast the wine-press trod :
O may I conquer through Thy blood ! 6 So when on Zion Thou shalt stand,
And all heav'n's host adore their King,
And, free from pain, Thy glories sing.
1 COME, my soul, thy suit prepare,
Jesus loves to answer pray’r:
2 Thou art coming to a King,
Large petitions with Thee bring;
3 With my burden I begin,
LORD, remove this load of sin!
4 LORD! I come to Thee for rest,
Take possession of my breast;
5 While I am a pilgrim here,
Let Thy love my spirit cheer;
6 Show me what I have to do,
Ev'ry hour my strength renew;
BEHOLD the throne of grace!
The promise calls me near; There Jesus shows a smiling face,
And waits to answer pray’r. 2 That rich atoning blood,
Which sprinkled round I see,
An all-prevailing plea.
Thou canst not be too bold:
What else can he withhold ?
open wide; LORD, open Thou 'Thy bounteous hand,
That I may be supplied. 5 Thine image, LORD, bestow,
Thy presence and Thy love; I ask to serve Thee here below,
And reign with Thee above. 6 Teach me to live by faith, Conform
will to Thine ; Let me victorious be in death,
And then in glory shine.
And wilt my portion be,
To them who know not Thee.
1 COME let us lift our joyful eyes
Up to the courts above,
2 Once 'twas a seat of dreadful wrath,
And shot devouring flame ;
And vengeance was His Name.
That calm’d His frowning face,
And turn'd the wrath to grace. 4 Now we may bow before His feet,
And venture near the LORD;
Nor double-flaming sword.
5 The peaceful gates of heav'nly bliss
Are open'd by the Son;
And reach th' Almighty's throne. 6 To Thee ten thousand thanks we bring,'
Great Advocate on high ; And glory to th' eternal King,
Who lays His anger by.
i LORD, teach us how to pray aright,
With rev’rence and with fear:
We may, we must draw near.
O grant us pow'r to pray:
LORD, meet us by the way.
3 Give deep humility; the sense
Of godly sorrow give;
That can for sin atone;
On Christ, and CHRIST alone.
5 Patience to watch, and wait, and weep,
Though mercy long delay; Courage our fainting souls to keep,
And trust Thee though Thou slay. 6 Give these ;-and then Thy will be done :
Thus strengthen'd with all might, We, through the SPIRIT and Thy Son,
Shall pray, and pray aright.
