1 FORTH in Thy Name, O LORD, I go,
My daily labour to pursue;
Thee, only Thee resolv'd to know,
In all I think, or speak, or do.

2 The task Thy wisdom hath assign'd,

In all my works Thy presence find,
And prove Thy acceptable will.

Praying for Gratitude.

Is this the kind return?

And these the thanks we owe?
Thus to abuse eternal love

Whence all our blessings flow.

2 To what a stubborn framė
Has sin reduc'd our mind?
What strange rebellious wretches we,
And GOD as strangely kind!

3 Turn us again, O Gop!

And mould our souls afresh;

Break, sov'reign Grace, these hearts of stone,
And give us hearts of flesh.

4 Let past ingratitude

Provoke our weeping eyes,

And, hourly, as new mercies fall,
Let hourly thanks arise!

Humility and Docility.

1 LORD, that I may learn of Thee,
Give me true simplicity:
Wean my soul, and keep it low,
Willing Thee alone to know.

2 Let me cast my reeds aside,
All that feeds my knowing pride;
Not to man, but GOD submit,
Lay my reasonings at His feet.

3 Of my boasted wisdom spoil'd,
Docile, helpless as a child;
Only seeing in Thy light,
Only walking in Thy might.

4 Then infuse the teaching grace,
Spirit of truth and righteousness;
Knowledge, love divine impart,
Life eternal to my heart.

1O THOU, who camest from above, The pure, celestial fire t' impart, Kindle a flame of sacred love

On the mean altar of my heart.

2 There, let it for Thy glory burn,
With inextinguishable blaze;
And trembling to it's source return,
In humble pray'r and fervent praise.

3 JESUS, confirm my heart's desire

To work, and speak, and think for Thee; Still let me guard the holy fire,

And still stir up Thy gift in me:

4 Ready for all Thy perfect will,

My acts of faith and love repeat,
Till death Thy endless mercies seal,

In swift obedience move:

But Satan cannot love.

All that is done in heav'n and hell,
Or could my faith the world remove,

3 Should I distribute all my store
To feed the bowels of the poor,
Or give my body to the flame,
To gain a martyr's glorious name;
4 If love to GOD and love to men
Be absent, all my hopes are vain :
Nor tongues, nor gifts, nor fiery zeal,
The work of love can e'er fulfil.

Meekness.-Religion against Anger.

1 AND is the Gospel peace and love?
Such let our conversation be;
The serpent blended with the dove,
Wisdom and meek simplicity.

2 Whene'er the angry passions rise,

And tempt our thoughts or tongues to strife, TO JESUS let us lift our eyes,

Bright pattern of the Christian life!

3 Oh, how benevolent and kind!

How mild! how ready to forgive!
Be this the temper of our mind,
And these the rules by which we live.

4 Thy fair example may we trace,

To teach us what we ought to be! Make us, by Thy transforming grace, O SAVIOUR, daily more like Thee!
