[blocks in formation]

1 BEFORE Jehovah's awful throne,
Ye nations, bow with sacred joy ;
Know that the Lord is God alone;
He can create and he destroy.

2 His sovereign power, without our aid, Made us of clay, and formed us men; And when like wandering sheep we strayed, He brought us to his fold again.

3 We are his people, we his care,

Our souls and all our mortal frame:
What lasting honors shall we rear,
Almighty Maker, to thy name?

4 We'll crowd thy gates with thankful songs;
High as the heavens our voices raise;
And earth, with her ten thousand tongues,
Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise.

5 Wide as the world is thy command, Vast as eternity thy love;

Firm as a rock thy truth will stand,

43

When rolling years shall cease to move.

Worship.

1 GREAT Shepherd of thy people, here
Thy presence now display:
We kneel within thy house of prayer,
O, give us hearts to pray!

2 Help us with holy fear and joy
To kneel before thy face;
O make us, creatures of thy power,
The children of thy grace!

[blocks in formation]

1 ALMIGHTY God, while earth and heaven
Thy power and skill proclaim,
Wilt thou permit a child to sing
The honor of thy name?

2 The early dawn of opening life
Has proved thy guardian care;
And may I, through my future years,
Thy grace and goodness share.

3 Now may I give myself to thee,
And in thy name confide;

Most gracious God, O deign to be
My Father, Friend, and Guide.

1 WHEN to the house of God we go,
To hear his word and sing his love,
To offer praises here below,

With all the saints in heaven above,

2 Our God is present with us there,

[ocr errors]

And watches all our thoughts and ways O, let us humbly join in prayer, Let us sincerely sing his praise!

3 0, may we never thoughtless go, Nor lose the days our God has given!

46

But learn, by Sabbaths spent below,
To spend eternity in heaven.

Rejoice in God.

1 COME, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known:
Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne.

2 The sorrows of the mind

Be banished from the place: Religion never was designed To make our pleasures less.. 3 Then let our songs abound, And every tear be dry:

We're marching thro' Immanuel's ground To fairer worlds on high.

1 O'ER mountain tops the mount of God In latter days shall rise

Above the summits of the hills,

And draw the wondering eyes.

2 To this the joyful nations round,
All tribes and tongues, shall flow;
"Up to the mount of God," they say,
"And to his house we'll go."

3 The beams that shine from Zion's hill
Shall lighten every land;

The King who reigns in Salem's towers Shall the whole world command.

[blocks in formation]

1 GLORIOUS things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God!

He whose word cannot be broken
Formed thee for his own abode.

2 See! the streams of living waters,
Springing from eternal love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters,
And all fear of want remove.

3 Who can faint while such a river
Ever flows their thirst t' assuage?
Grace, which, like the Lord, the Giver,
Never fails from age to age.

1 ZION, awake! thy strength renew!
Put on thy robes of beauteous hue!
Church of our God, arise and shine,
Bright with the beams of truth divine!
2 Soon shall thy radiance stream afar,
Wide as the heathen nations are;
Gentiles and kings thy light shall view;
All shall admire and love thee too.

[blocks in formation]

1 HERE, when thy people seek thy face, And dying sinners pray to live,

Hear Thou in heaven, thy dwelling-place, And, when thou hearest, O forgive!

2 Here, when thy messengers proclaim
The blessed gospel of thy Son,
Still, by the power of his great name,
Be mighty signs and wonders doue.
3 Hosanna! to their heavenly King,

51

When children's voices raise that song, Hosanna! let their angels sing,

And heaven with earth the strain prolong.

Close of Service.

1 O GOD, accept the sacred hour

Which we to thee have given;
And let this hallowed scene have power
To raise our souls to heaven.
2 Still let us ho'd, till life departs,
The precepts of thy Son;
Nor let our thoughtless, thankless hearts
Forget what he has done.

3 His true disciples may we live,

From all corruption free,

And humbly learn like him to give
Our powers, our wills, to thee.

[blocks in formation]

1 THY presence, everlasting God!
Wide o'er all nature spreads abroad:
Thy watchful eyes, which cannot sleep,
In every place thy children keep.
2 To thee we all our ways commit,
And seek our comforts near thy feet;
Still on our souls vouchsafe to shine,
And guard and guide us still as thine.
