PREFACE. The following tables comprise Part II of the AMERICAN PRACTICAL NAVIGATOR, by the late Nathaniel Bowditch, LL. D., as revised in 1880 and in 1903, and again in 1914, under the direction of the Bureau of Navigation, Navy Department. In the present edition, former tables 28A, 28B, 28C and 28D, Latitude by Polaris; 37, Logarithms for Equal Altitude Sights; 37A, Equation of Equal Altitudes near Noon, have been omitted, but the former assignment of table numbers and page numbers has not been disturbed, the pages on which these tables were printed being simply dropped from the book and the tables and pages not renumbered consecutively. This edition has been extended by incorporating Table 45, Logarithmic and Natural Haversines; Table 46, Consolidated Altitude Corrections; Table 47, Longitude Factor, and Table 48, Latitude Factor.
