11, Sir William Beckwith, of Clint, Knt. son and heir, seised also of the manor of Beckwith and Beckwithshaw, married daughter of Sir John Baskervile, Knt. by whom he had one son,

12, Thomas, his son and heir, who married daughter of Sir William Haslerton, Knt. in whose right he was lord of the third part of the moiety of Fylemaston and Thorp, by whom he had five sons, 1, Thomas; 2, William ; 3, John; 4, Adam; 5, Robert; and two daughters, Ellen, wife of John Vavasor, of Weston, Esq. who made his will, 1461; and Joan, of Thomas Althere, Esq. Thomas, the eldest son, married , daughter of William Ingleby, of Ripley, in Yorkshire, and died without issue, 1478. Sir William, second son, and heir to his brother, married, first,

William Plumpton, of Plumpton, Knt. living 1456, by whom he had one son, William-Gascoigne, who died, 16 Edw. IV. 1476, leaving no issue by his wife, Janetta, daughter of William Beckwith, of Clint, Esq. he married, secondly,

-, daughter of Sir John Ratcliff, K. G. by whom he had no issue. This Sir William was made knight-banneret in Scotland, by the Duke of Gloucester. 20 Edw. IV. 1480. John Beckwith, third son of Thomas, of whom hereafter, Adam, fourth son, married Amy, daughter of William Redman, of Harwood Castle, Esq. and died without issue; Robert, the fifth son, married Barbara, daughter of John Leventhorp, Esq. by whom he had John and Mary: which John was ancestor to Sir Leonard Beckwith, high-sheriff of Yorkshire, 4 Edw. VI. and to Ambrose Beckwith, of Stillingfleet, near York, which Sir Leonard served Hen. VIII. in the French wars, and afterwards was servant to Edw. VI. and had the scite of the abbey of Selby granted him, 4 Edw. VI. He married Elizabeth, daughter and coheiress of Sir Roger Cholmley, Knt. by whom he had two sons, Roger and Rancy, who died without issue and two daughters, Elizabeth, wife of William Vavasor, of Weston, in Yorkshire, Esq.; and Frances, wife of Geo. Harvey, of Marks, in Essex, by whom they had issue Ellen.

13, John Beckwith, the third son of Thomas, married -, daughter of Thomas Ratcliffe, of Mulgrave, by whom he had two sons, Thomas, heir to his uncle Sir William; he married Maud, daughter of Henry Pudsey, of Berford, in Richmondshire, Esq. from whom descended the Beckwiths, of Clint, who continued there till 1655, when Huntingdon Beckwith, Esq. the last of that branch, died.

14, Robert Beckwith, Esq. (son of the last-mentioned John), of Boxholm, near Ripley, in Yorkshire, confirmed to John, his son, all his lands in the town of Thorpe, near Ripon, which he had with John, his father, of the gift and feoffment of John Beckwith, son of John Beckwith, of Tolleston, 8 Edw. IV. 14CS. He was succeeded by his son,

15, John Beckwith, who left one son,

16, Robert Beckwith, of Dacre, near Ripley, who made his will Oct. 6, 1536, and left two sons, Robert, who is supposed to have died unmarried, and

17, Marmaduke, of Dacre, who sold lands in Clint, and purchased Acton, or Ackton, and the manor of Featherston, near Pontefract. He married, first, Anne, daughter of Robert Dynely, of Bramhope, near Otley, in Yorkshire, Esq. secondly, Ellen, relict of William Style, of Hadockson, in the same county, Esq. by whom he had no issue, but by his first wife, he had four sons and seven daughters, 1, Thomas, of Acton, Esq. living 1612, married Frances, daughter and heiress of William Frost, of Aicton, from whom descended the Beckwiths, of Aicton, now extinct; 2, William, of Dacre-Pasture, from whom descended the Beckwiths, of Kirby-Milzard, and those of Bueerly, of which last family was John Beckwith, a major in the king of Prussia's service, in 1771. From this William are also descended the Beckwiths, of Lamb-Hall, High-Bur: ton, and Masham; 3, Roger Beckwith, sold his lands in Clint, and purchased Aldbrough, and died Jan. 19, 1634, but of him more hereafter; 4, Simon; of the daughters, 1, Jane, wife of John Thorp, of Danthorpe, in Yorkshire, captain of a troop of horse, 1665; 2, Barbara, of Matthew Lockwood, of Sowerby, near Thirsk, Esq.; 3, Dorothy; 4, Grace, of John Nesfield, of Hasby-in-Craven, Yorkshire; 5, Catharine, of Henry Pudsey, of Arnsforth, in the same county; 6, Anne; 7, Alice, wife of, in 1650, of James Smith, of Rippon, Esq.

18, Roger Beckwith, Esq. third son of Marmaduke, beforementioned, sold his lands in Clint, and purchased Alborough. He married, first, daughter of Mr. Currier, of Leeds, by whom he had a son, Thomas Beckwith, of Beverley, who suffered greatly for his loyalty to Charles I. and had his estate sequestered, and two daughters, Catharine, wife of Thomas Norton, of Elveston, and Anne, of John Robinson, of Bolton-upon-Swale, in Yorkshire. His second wife, was Susanna, daughter of Mr. Brakenbury, of Sellaby and Dinton, in Durham, by whom he had three sons, and three daughters; 1, Arthur, his successor; 2, Matthew, of Tanfield, in Yorkshire, who was a justice of the peace, and a captain in the parliament army. He was ancestor to the Beckwiths, of Thurcroft, and married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Buck, of Filey, in Yorkshire, Knt.; 3, William, of Thurcroft, in Yorkshire, who married Margaret, daughter of Bernard Ellis, Esq. recorder of York; the daughters were, 1, Susan, wife of John Alnaby, of Alnaby, in Yorkshire, Esq. (grandmother to Arthur Onslow, Esq. speaker of the house of commons); 2, Judith, of William Parker, M. D. in Kent; and 3, Hester, living 1630, wife of Thomas Odingfells, of Eperston, in Nottinghamshire, Esq. This Roger lies buried at Masham, in the north riding of Yorkshire*.

19, Arthur Beckwith, of Aldbrough, Esq. son and heir, married Mary, eldest daughter of Sir Marmaduke Wyvill, of Constable-Burton, Yorkshire, Bart. by whom he had two sons, Marmaduke, who died unmarried, and Roger, his successor; also three daughters, Mary, Isabel, and Susan, who all died unmarried, he died in 1642*.

I. ROGER BECKWITH, of Aldbrough, Esq. son and heir, was created a Baronet, 33 Car. II. he married first, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Christopher Clapham, of Beamsley, Knt. by whom he had one son, Arthur, who died 1700, beyond sea; his second lady was, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Edmund Jennings, of Ripon, Knt. by whom he had four sons and two daughters, 1, Sir Roger, his successor; 2, Marmaduke, successor to his brother; 3, Edmund; 4, Marmaduke; 5, Margaret; 6, Elizabeth; the four last died young. Sir Roger died December 6, 1700, and lies buried in Ripon church †.

married Susanna, the Daughter of Mr. Brakenbury,

of Sellaby, in the County Palatine of Durham, by
whom he had Arthur, his Successor, and seven other
Children, four Sons, and three Daughters. She de-
parted this Life the 28th Day of October, Anno
Domini 1670, and lyes buried in the Parish Church
of Skelbrough. He was the Son of Marmaduke
Beckwith, of Acton, by Ann, Daughter to Mr. Dyn-
ley, of Bramhope, which Marmaduke was the next
in Descent to Huntington Beckwith, of Clint, where
the Family had continued from the tenth Year of
King Henry the Third, Anno Domini 1226, until
the Year 1597, when the aforesaid Roger Beck with
sold his Lands in Clint, and purdhased Aldbrough.

He lies buried also at Mosham, with this inscription :

To the Memory of Arthur Beckwith, of Aldbrough,
Esq. who died in the Service of his Country, Anno
1642.

He married Mary, eldest Daughter of Sir Marma-
duke Wyvill, Knt. and Bart. by whom he left two
Sons, and three Daughters. She died in the Year
1646, and was buried in the Church of St. Clement
Danes, London.

Roger, his Successor, married two Wives, first, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Christopher Clapham, of Beamsley, Knt. who departed this Life the first Day of December, in the year 1673, and was buried near this Place: secondly, Elizabeth, Daughter of Sir Edmund Jenings, with whom he lyes buried, in ths Collegiate Church at Ripon.

In the south isle of the choir, at the east end, is an atchievement of Sir Roger Beckwith, Bart. who bore baron and femme, argent, a cheveron between three hinds' heads, erased, gules; on a canton in the middle, argent, a sinister hand, gules; with argent, a cheveron, gules, between three plummets, sable; being the arms of his lady, daughter to Sir Edmund Jennings, Knt. his crest, an antelope, with a green branch in its mozer; and, upon a blue marble stone on the ground, is this inscription (b) :

Here lieth the Body of Sir Roger Beckwith, Bart. late

of Aldbrough, who died at Rippon Dec. 6, 1700.

II. Sir ROGER BECKWITH, eldest son and successor to his father in dignity and estate, who was born June 13, 1682, was high sheriff of the county of York, 1706, and married Jane, daughter and sole heiress of Benjamin Waddington, Esq. of Allerton-Gleadhow, in Yorkshire, by whom he had two Roger and Edmund, and one daughter, Mary, who died young. Sir Roger died in May 1743, without any surviving issue, and was succeeded by his only surviving brother,

III. Sir MARMADUKE BECKWITH, Bart. born Jan. 1687, was a merchant and clerk of the peace in Virginia. He married and had issue, 1, Torpley, who died in England, Dec. 27, 1748; 2, Marmaduke, living in Virginia, 1771; 3, ———, a daughter, living in 1748.

IV. Sir JONATHAN BECKWITH, is the present Baronet.

201. PARKYNS, of BUNNY, Northamptonshire.

Created Baronet, May 18, 1681.

THIS family came from Upton and Mattisfield, in the county of Berks. 1, Richard Parkyns, Esq. great grandson to Thomas Parkyns, of the places aforesaid, was justice of the peace, and recorder of the towns of Nottingham and Leicester, and an ancient utter barrister of the Inner Temple. He died 1603, leaving issue, by Elizabeth, relict of Humphry Barlow, of Stoke, in the county of Derby, Esq. and daughter of Aden Beresford, of Fenney-Bentley, Esq. in the said county, four sons and four daughters. This Richard, and Elizabeth his wife, suffered a recovery, Trin. 16 Eliz. †, of eight messuages, six cottages, six hundred acres of land, two hundred acres of meadow, three hundred acres of pasture, half a windmill, sixty acres of wood, and free warren in Boney, parcel of the manor of Boney; he was called John Dethick, Esq. The said Richard, 18 Eliz. suffered another, of one messuage, one toft, one dovecote, one garden, one hun
