unto Abraham and unto his seed (of faith in the promise of the Spirit) a first and then a second time. And we are caused still further to perceive that faith, or belief, in the promise of the Spirit, is the faith of Abraham and of his seed, and that this faith in the promise of the Spirit is counted. unto Abraham and to his seed for righteonsness -that is to say, for the righteousness which is of faith.

If we then are caused to receive, and to believe, the promise of the Spirit (who cannot lie, Titus i. 2,) we know that we have eternal life, the free gift of our holy Father's everlasting love. So then when the promise of the Spirit of love is received into our heart by faith, and his faithful word is given unto our understanding, then are we caused to know by the Spirit the great things that are freely given unto us of God. 1 Corin. ii. 10, 11, 12.

Therefore, beloved brother, we do now know the things that are freely given unto us of God through the hearing of our faith in his promise, and the understanding of our belief in his immutable word, is now imputed unto us for righteousness.

But to know God as he is, and the sons of God as they shall be, is the everlasting righteousness that shall dwell in us for ever. And therefore, my own beloved brother, it is now made manifest in our consciences, that this future everlasting righteousness cannot dwell in us, until we know

Him as (in his eternal purpose) he hath purposed to make Himself known unto us by his own Spirit now dwelling in us.

And now we are enabled to understand his Truth, even his holy promise-and our Faith in his glorious promise is our temporal righteousness which is to last but for a little time; but when his precious promise is fulfilled in us, then cometh our eternal righteousness which shall abide in us for ever.

Therefore, at this present time, we do not wish to be unclothed (of our temporal righteousness), but we wish to be clothed upon (with our eternal righteousness), that mortality might be swallowed up of life-for our temporal righteousness is suited for the remaining days of our mortality; but our eternal righteousness is prepared for our immortality. For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven. 2 Cors. v. 1, 2.

For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ,-Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is

able to subdue all things unto himself. Phil. iii. 20, 21.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. For if righteousness come by the Law, then Christ is dead to the Law in vain, that he might live unto God through faith in the promise of the Spirit.

That is to say-It is impossible for the creature to attain even unto the righteousness of faith in the promise of the Spirit-by his own labours with the Scriptures,-because our temporal righteousness of faith in his promise of eternal life, is as much the free gift of the Spirit (according to the times appointed in himself) as our eternal righteousness will be found a free gift of his everlasting love. For by grace are ye saved throuh faith; and that not of ourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephes. ii. 8, 9, 10.

So then the ever blessed Spirit hath now given us to understand that faith in the promise of the Spirit concerning eternal life, is the righteousness that is imputed to us, before that we are made righteous in his sight.

But when we are made righteous in his sight,

even as he is righteous, then the promise of the faithful Spirit is fulfilled in us; as it is written, Be silent to the Lord, and wait patiently for him, and he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Psalm. xxxvii. 7, 6.

So then being justified (of God) by faith in the promise of the Spirit, we are commanded, of God, to be silent (and not to speak) until his appointed time hath come to perform his own faithful promise in us. And because of the certainty of his word of truth according to all that he hath purposed in himself; it is therefore written. Being justified by faith in his word, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of the sons of God.

Romans v. 1, 2.

And because these things are so, therefore his whole word from the beginning unto the end thereof is found to be holy, just, and true; even as it is written. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called; and whom he called, them he also justified; and whom he justified, them he also glorified. Roms. viii. 29, 30.

And after this very order is the good Spirit found to be holy, just, and true.

Now, as it may be the good pleasure of the Spirit after this very order to make manifest himself in us, even so shall we be made to glorify him, as it is written. Father, the hour is come, glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee. As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. John xvii. 1, 2, 3.

And now as the good Spirit will enable, so shall we move forward in our thoughts and words to speak concerning him whom he did foreknow and predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the Firstborn of many brethren into that image.

Moreover we are caused to perceive that the Firstborn of many brethren into the image of God, is called the new man; because he is created a new man in knowledge after the image of God, in righteousness and holiness of truth. And we are caused to perceive that this new man in knowledge, concerning God and Jesus Christ, is opposed to the old man in knowledge concerning God and Jesus Christ.

Furthermore we are taught of the Spirit, that the new man in his new knowledge after the image of God, is created into that image by the power of God, called, the New Creation of God.
