THE little work now offered to the public was written several years ago by a dissenting Minister, well known at the time, and highly esteemed for his abilities and labours. The manuscript was then read by some judicious and serious Christians, both Ministers and others; the Author was requested to publish it, and several hundred copies were subscribed for; but his removal to a distant part of the country, and some other circumstances connected with that removal, prevented the publication of it at that time. The manuscript has lately come into the hands of the publisher as his own property, and his opinion of its useful tendency having been confirmed by the opinion of others to whose inspection it has been submitted, he has been induced to publish it. The many lamentable instances of Apostacy in those who did run well" in the Christian course, make it devoutly to be wished that every means may be used to preserve professors from the ensnaring vanities of the world, and from the subtle devices of their spiritual a |
