MISSION PRAYER.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, who didst so love the world as to give Thy only begotten SON, that whosoever should believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life, send Thy blessing on the Mission to be held in this place. Give special grace and power to those who shall be appointed to declare Thy word, that they may faithfully discharge their ministry. Enlighten the darkness of those who are blinded by sin or prejudice, that they may be led to the acknowledgement of Thy truth and be saved. Fulfil Thy work, O LORD, in Thine own good time, to the breaking down the kingdom of Satan, and the glorifying of Thy great name in the salvation of Thy children, through JESUS CHRIST, our LORD. Amen. OUR FATHER, &C.

By the Bishops, the Clergy, and the Laity of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, in General Convention, held in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy four, it was Resolved: That future Editions of the Hymnal shall be printed so as to conform to the Revised Edition presented by the joint Committee on the Hymnal, and that no other Hymns be allowed in the public worship of the Church except the Hymnal as thus revised, and such hymns and psalms as are now ordinarily bound up with the Book of Common Prayer: provided that any congregation may continue to use the Editions of the Hymnal heretofore published, until farther action of the Convention.

CERTIFICATE.

I do hereby certify that this Edition of the Revised Hymnal having been by me compared with and corrected by the Standard Book, as the General Convention has directed, is permitted to be published accordingly.

On behalf of the Trustees of the Fund for the relief of Widows and Orphans of deceased Clergymen, and of aged, infirm, and disabled Clergymen.

OF CHURCH MUSIC,

§1. The selections of the Psalms in metre, and! Hymns which are set forth by authority, and Anthems in the words of Holy Scripture, are allowed to be sung in all congregations of this church before and after Morning and Evening Prayer, and also before and after Sermons, at the discretion of the Minister, whose duty it shall be by standing directions, or from time to time, to appoint such authorized Psalms, Hymns, or Anthems as are to be sung.

§ 2. It shall be the duty of every Minister of this church, with such assistance as he may see fit to employ from persons skilled in music, to give order concerning the tunes to be sung at any time in his church; and especially, it shall be his duty to suppress all light and unseemly music, and all indecency and irreverence in the performance, by which vain and ungodly persons profane the service of the Sanctuary.

Adopted in General Convention, 1874.
