MENSURATION OF LINES.

Right-angled Triangle.

1. Find the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle whose sides are 386 and 300.

2. What is the length of a ladder which just reaches to the top of a wall 36 ft. high when its foot is 48 ft. from the wall?

3. The top of a ladder touches a wall 4 yards above the ground when its foot is placed 3 ft. 6 in. from the wall. How long is the ladder?

4. If one person walk north and another west, at the rate of 4 miles an hour for 4 hrs. 14 min. 30 sec., how far are they apart in a straight line?

Circle.

1. Find the length of an arc whose chord is 24 and height 5 ft.

2. Find the diameter of a circle whose circumference is a furlong.

3. A planet being supposed to describe a circle of 37,000,000 miles' radius round the sun in 88 days, find the number of miles described in a second.
