EVEN ME. 8s, 7s & 3.

W. B. BRADBURY.

99.

"Bless me, even me, also."

MRS. CODNer.

L art scott

ORD, I hear of show'rs of blessing,

Show'rs the thirsty land refreshing :
Let some droppings fall on me—
Even me, even me,

Let some droppings fall on me.

2 Pass me not, O gracious Father!
Sinful though my heart may be ;
Thou might'st leave me, but the rather
Let thy mercy light on me—
Even me.

3 Pass me not, O tender Saviour!
Let me love and cling to thee;
I am longing for thy favor:

Whilst thou'rt calling, oh! call me—
Even me.

4 Have I long in sin been sleeping-
Long been slighting, grieving thee?
Has the world my heart been keeping?
Oh, forgive, and rescue me—

Even me.

5 Pass me not, O mighty Spirit!

Thou canst make the blind to see;

Witnesser of Jesus' merit,

Speak the word of power to me—
Even me.

PASS ME NOT. 8s & 5s

PASS

ASS me not, O gentle Saviour,
Hear my humble cry;

While on others thou art smiling,
Do not pass me by.

2 Let me at a throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief,

Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Help my unbelief.

3 Trusting only in thy merits,
Would I seek thy face,

Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by thy grace.

4 Thou the spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,-

Whom have I on earth beside thee,
Whom in heaven but thee?

"Made nigh by the blood of Christ." Eph. 2: 13. NEWTON.

LORD, I approach the mercy-seat,

Where thou dost answer prayer;

There humbly fall before thy feet,
For none can perish there.

2 Thy promise is my only plea;
With this I venture nigh:

Thou callest burdened souls to thee,
And such, O Lord, am I.

3 Bowed down beneath a load of sin,
By Satan sorely pressed,

By war without, and fear within,
I come to thee for rest.

4 Be thou my shield and hiding-place;
That, sheltered near thy side,
I may my fierce accuser face,
And tell him thou hast died.

5 Oh, wondrous love!—to bleed and die,
To bear the cross and shame,
That guilty sinners, such as I,
Might plead thy gracious name.

Job 23: 3.

H that I knew the secret place,

I'd spread my wants before his face,
And pour my woes abroad.

2 I'd tell him how my sins arise,
What sorrows I sustain ;

How grace decays and comfort dies,
And leaves my heart in pain.

3 He knows what arguments I'd take
To wrestle with my God!

I'd plead for his own mercy's sake-
I'd plead my Saviour's blood.

4 Arise, my soul! from deep distress,
And banish every fear;

He calls thee to his throne of grace,
To spread thy sorrows there.

"He shall hide me." Ps. 27: 5-9.

MRS. STEELR.

EAR Father, to thy mercy-seat

"Tis here I find a safe retreat
When storms and tempests rise.
2 My cheerful hope can never die,
If thou, my God, art near;

Thy grace can raise my comforts high,
And banish every fear.

3 Oh, never let my soul remove

From this divine retreat!

Still let me trust thy power and love,

And dwell beneath thy feet.

[blocks in formation]

Spants the hart for cooling streams

When heated in the chase,

So longs my soul, O God, for thee,
And thy refreshing grace.

2 For thee, my God, the living Ged,
My thirsty soul doth pine;

Oh! when shall I behold thy face,
Thou Majesty divine!

3 Why restless, why cast down, my soul!
Hope still, and thou shalt sing

The praise of him who is thy God,
Thy health's eternal spring.

FROM wg tide of woes,

ROM every stormy wind that blows,

There is a calm, a sure retreat;
"Tis found beneath the mercy-seat.

STOWELL

2 There is a place where Jesus sheds
The oil of gladness on our heads—
A place, than all besides, more sweet:
It is the blood-bought mercy-seat.
3 There is a scene where spirits blend,
Where friend holds fellowship with friend;
Though sundered far, by faith they meet
Around one common mercy-seat.

4 There, there, on eagle wings we soar,
And sense and sin molest no more,

106.

And heaven comes down our souls to greet,
And glory crowns the mercy-seat!

"The gate of heaven." Gen. 28: 17.

OW

How sweet to leave the world awhile,

And seek the presence of our Lord!
Dear Saviour, on thy people smile,
And come according to thy word.

2 From busy scenes we now retreat,
That we may here converse with thee;
Ah, Lord, behold us at thy feet!

Let this the "gate of heaven" be.

KELLY.
