The Concise Dictionary of Foreign Quotations

Front Cover

Stacey International, 1998 - Foreign Language Study - 320 pages
This dictionary contains quotations in Latin, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The entries were chosen by five editors, each widely read in the language concerned. The majority of the entries will probably be familiar to an English reader, and a few were chosen because, although unfamiliar, the editorial team thought them delightful. The sayings are accompanied by their translation into English and cross-indexed for easy reference. The range includes literary quotations, political quotations, poetic thoughts, pungent comments, polished epigrams and shrewd perceptions, by everyone from Cicero to Sartre, Goethe to Goering.
