7. A bought a stock of drapery from the trustee of an estate for £350. He sold the greater portion for £475, and then had left goods valued at £50. His expenses amounted to £45.

What was his whole profit, and what percentage was it of the purchase money?

8. If water flows at the uniform rate of 100 yards a minute through a circular pipe of 14 inches radius, find the number of gallons that flow past any point in an hour.

4. Name the chief lines of steamers that trade to Australia, and give their termini.

5. Name five ship canals, and in each case mention the saving effected.

6. Where are the following raw materials obtained, and for what are they used: Guano, jute, esparto grass, asbestos, cinchona, flax? 7. On the accompanying map write the names of the towns indicated by numbers, and state for what they are important.

Write a letter from Finlayson & Co., Storekeepers in Broken Hill, to Denny, Sims, & Co., Wholesale Chemists & Druggists in Adelaide, enclosing a list of supplies which the former wish to order, and asking Denny, Sims, & Co. to name their lowest prices and best terms.

3. Write a letter from the Eastern Tea Trading Co. in Adelaide to their Perth branch office to advise having drawn on them a draft, £200, at 30 d/s in favour of the Bank of West Australia. 4. Write a letter as from J. Williamson, an Importer of bicycles, to the Coventry Cycle Co., Manufacturers of these machines in Coventry (England) asking for their price list and catalogues, and requesting them to name their lowest quotations, c. f. & i, London or Liverpool, for 12 machines of a specification enclosed. Terms, bank draft with order.

5. Write a letter as from the Bonanza Gold Mining Co., Ltd., to Mr. F. Ledger, F.S.A., the Company's Auditor, informing him that the books are ready for audit, and asking him to attend at his early convenience with a view to the usual examination and certificate.

6. Write a circular letter from a Firm of Jewellers to their principal Customers inviting their inspection of some new and special designs in artistic jewellery recently imported.

7. Write a confidential letter from a Firm of house and estate Agents to the Bank of South Australia asking for information at to the means and credit of Mr. E. Thackeray, who is offering to take a lease of a large residence through them, and has named the Bank as a reference.

8. Write a letter from the Angaston Vineyard Co., trading as Wine Merchants, to Mr. V. Slack, a considerable Customer, drawing his attention to the amount and period of his account, and asking for a settlement or remittance on account.
