About the author (2000)

Joel W. Palka has taught at Vanderbilt University and is Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Latin American Studies at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He is presently the director of the Lacandon Archaeology Project in Guatemala. He has lectured and written extensively on Maya civilization and on all of ancient Mesoamerica.
