INTRODUCTORY NOTE.

THIS Volume brings the Revised Edition of the Statutes down to the end of the first Session of the fiftieth year of Her Majesty's reign. It is not proposed at present to carry the Edition beyond this point.

A Supplement has been added containing, with a few exceptions, the Statutes which in the Chronological Table prefixed to the first volume of this Edition were stated to be reserved for a supplemental volume. The reasons for the omission of the excepted Statutes are given in the Chronological Table which forms part of the Supplement.

An Appendix has also been added containing tables showing repeals, revivals, and extensions subsequent to the publication of the respective volumes of this Edition. By following the directions given in these tables the owner of a copy of this Edition can make it conformable with the most recent legislation.

The Volume is framed on the principles stated in the Introductory Notes to the preceding volumes.

The Chronological Tables are restricted to giving reasons for total or partial omission of Acts, but without reference to sections. Reasons for the omission of whole sections are given in notes in the text. For fuller information showing the partial repeals of sections and other operations, such as extensions, amendments, &c., the reader is referred to the Chronological Table and the Index to the Statutes, which are published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office.

This Volume has been edited by Mr. H. S. THEOBALD.
