Thoughts and Admonitions of Confcience, and only take Care to filence them, and keep all Quiet for the Prefent Within, upon Promife of doing hereafter what we acknowledge ought sometime or other to be done, we lose the Convenient Seafons, the Opportunities that God has given us to Save ourselves, and yet are at more Pains and Difquiet to fight against our Conscience, than it would have coft us to have made even with it, and have made ourselves for ever Happy, if we would have liftened to it, and lived under its Directions: Like fome foolish Inconfiderate Spend-thrift, that when he finds his Creditors Craving and Clamorous, never thinks how he may honeftly discharge his Debt, but how he may gain Time, and stop the Prefent Gap, till what is fo thrown away at times, in purchafing Forbearance and bribing Under-Officers, amounts at laft to more than would have fet him Clear, and made him Honeft too, and yet the Main Debt still remains Unpaid. Such ill Managers are We for our Souls, if we only take Care to bribe and ftill our Confciences when they begin to trouble us, and dodge and

juggle with them time after time, but will take no Care to fatisfie them once for all in their juft Demands. God grant that we may learn to be more Spiritually Wife, and confult our Eternal Good more than our Present Ease.
