189 Psalm 24.
He lives, He lives, who once was dead, 1 Our Lord is risen from the dead;
He lives, my ever-living Head ! Our Jesus is gone up on high;
2 He lives triumphant from the grave; The powers of hell are captive led,
| He lives eternally to save; Dragged to the portals of the sky.
He lives all glorious in the sky;
He lives exalted there on high. 2 There His triumphal chariot waits,
3 He lives to bless me with His love; And angels chant the solemn lay: Lift up your heads, ye heavenly gates!
He lives to plead for me above; Ye everlasting doors, give way!
He lives my hungry soul to feed;
He lives to help in time of need. 3 Loose all your bars of massy light,
4. He lives to grant me rich supply ; And wide unfold the ethereal scene ;
He lives to guide me with His eye ; He claims those mansions as His right;
He lives to comfort me when faint; Receive the King of glory in.
He lives to hear my soul's complaint. 4 Who is the King of glory—who?
5 He lives to silence all my fears; The Lord that all His foes o'ercame;
He lives to stoop and wipe my tears ; The world, sin, death, and hell o'er
He lives to calm my troubled heart; threw;
He lives all blessings to impart. And Jesus is the Conqueror's name.
6 He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly 5 Lo, His triumphal chariot waits,
Friend ; And angels chant the solemn lay:
He lives and loves me to the end ; Lift up your heads, ye heavenly gates ! He lives, and while He lives I'll sing, Ye everlasting doors, give way!
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King. 6 Who is the King of glory—who?
7 He lives, and grants me daily breath ; The Lord of glorious power pos He lives, and I shall conquer death ; sest,
He lives my mansion to prepare; The King of saints and angels too,
He lives to bring me safely there. God over all, forever blest.

He lives, my Jesus, still the same; 1 I know that my Redeemer lives; Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives,
Whatcomfort this sweet sentence gives!! I know that my Redeemer lives.
And now before His Father, God, 1 O Saviour, who for man hast trod
Pleads the full merit of His blood. The winepress of the wrath of God, 2 Repeated crimes awake our fears, Ascend, and claim again on high And justice armed with frowns appears ; Thy glory, left for us to die.
But in the Saviour's lovely face 2 A radiant cloud is now Thy seat,
Sweet mercy smiles, and all is peace. And earth lies stretched beneath Thy ! 3 In every dark, distressful hour, feet ;
[sing. When sin and Satan join their power, Ten thousand thousands round Thee Let this dear hope repel the dart,
And share the triumph of their King. l That Jesus bears us on His heart. 3 The angel-host enraptured waits ; 4 Great Advocate, Almighty Friend !
“Lift up your heads, eternal gates !" On Him our humble hopes depend; O God-and-Man! the Father's Throne. Our cause can never, never fail,
Is now, for evermore, Thine own. For Jesus pleads, and must prevail. 4 Our great High-Priest and Shepherd, 193 Thou
1 ( Christ, Thou glorious King! we own Within the veil art entered now,
Thee to be God's eternal Son; To offer there Thy precious blood,
The Father's fulness, life divine, Once poured on earth a cleansing flood.
Mysteriously is also Thine. 5 And thence the Church, Thy chosen 2 When rolling years brought on the day Bride,
Foretold and fixed for this display, With countless gifts of grace supplied,
Our great deliverance to obtain, Through all her members draws from
Thou didst our nature not disdain. Thee

And with Thy Father's glory graced, Thy lowly members heavenward bear; i There to remain till Thou shalt come Be ours with Thee to suffer pain,
As Judge to pass our final doom. With Thee for evermore to reign.
4 From day to day, O Lord, do we 192
On high exalt and honor Thee; i He lives ! the great Redeemer lives! Thy name we worship and adore,
What joy the blest assurance gives! I World without end, for evermore.
| 3 And ever on Thine earthly path i Oh for a shout of sacred joy
A gleam of glory lies; To God, the sovereign King !
A light still breaks behind the cloud Let every land their tongues employ,
That veils Thee from our eyes. And hymns of triumph sing. 4 Lift up our thoughts, lift up our songs, 2 Jesus our God ascends on high;
And let Thy grace be given, His heavenly guards around
That, while we linger yet below, Attend Him rising through the sky, I
Our hearts may be in heaven : With trumpets' joyful sound. 5 That where Thou art at God's right 3 While angels shout and praise their
Our hope, our love may be : Let mortals learn their strains ; Dwell in us now, that we may dwell Let all the earth His honors sing ;
For evermore in Thee. O'er all the earth He reigns. 196 Psalm 47. 4 Rehearse His praise with awe profound,
I ARISE, ye people, and adore, Let knowledge lead the song ;
Exulting strike the chord! Nor mock Him with a solemn sound
Let all the earth, from shore to shore, Upon a thoughtless tongue.
Confess the Almighty Lord ! 5 Oh for a shout of sacred joy
2 Glad shouts aloud, wide echoing To God, the sovereign King !
round, Let every land their tongues employ, And hymns of triumph sing.
The ascending God proclaim ;
The angelic choir respond the sound, 195
And shake creation's frame. i The eternal gates lift up their heads, 3 They sing of death and hell o'erthrown The doors are opened wide ;
In that triumphant hour; The King of glory is gone up
And God exalts His conquering Son Unto His Father's side.
To His right hand of power. 2 Thou art gone in before us, Lord, 4 Oh shout, ye people, and adore ; Thou hast prepared a place,
Exulting strike the chord ! That we may be where now Thou art, Let all the earth, from shore to shore, And look upon Thy face.
Confess the Almighty Lord.
His is love beyond a brother's, I HARK! ten thousand harps and voices Costly, free, and knows no end :
Sound the note of praise above; They who once His kindness prove, Jesus reigns, and heaven rejoices; Find it everlasting love. Jesus reigns, the God of love:
| 2 Which of all our friends, to save us, See, He sits on yonder throne ! Jesus rules the world alone.
Could or would have shed his
blood ? 2 Jesus, hail ! whose glory brightens All above and gives it worth;
But our Jesus died to have us Lord of life, Thy smile enlightens,
Reconciled in Him to God : Cheers and charms Thy saints on
This was boundless love indeed !
Jesus is a Friend in need ! earth : When we think of love like Thine,
3 When He lived on earth abaséd, Lord, we own it love divine.
Friend of sinners was His name ; 3 King of glory, reign forever !
Now, above all glory raised, Thine an everlasting crown;
He rejoices in the same ; Nothing from Thy love shall sever Still He calls them brethren, friends, Those whom Thou hast made Thine And to all their wants attends.

4 Could we bear from one another Chosen to behold Thy face.
What He daily bears from us? 4 Saviour, hasten Thine appearing !
Yet this glorious Friend and Brother Bring, oh bring the glorious day,
Loves us though we treat Him thus : When the awful summons hearing,
Though for good we render ill, Heaven and earth shall pass away!! He accounts us brethren still. Then with golden harps we'll sing, he Oh for grace our hearts to soften ! "Glory, glory, to our King !".
Teach us, Lord, at length to love ! Hallelujah, Amen!
We, alas ! forget too often 199
What a Friend we have above ; i ONE there is, above all others,
But when home our souls are brought, Well deserves the name of Friend ; ! We will love Thee as we ought.
