WELLS. L. M.

690

1 "Go,preach My gospel," saith the Lord; "Bid the whole earth My grace receive; He shall be saved that trusts My word; And he condemned that won't believe.

2 "I'll make your great commission known,

And ye shall prove My gospel true,
By all the works that I have done,
By all the wonders ye shall do.

3 "Teach all the nations My commands ;
I'm with you till the world shall end;
All power is trusted in My hands ;
I can destroy, and I defend."

4 He spake, and light shone round His

To teach the truth as taught by Thee, Saviour, like stars in Thy right hand Let all Thy Church's pastors be.

3 Wisdom and zeal and love impart, Firmness with meekness from above, To bear Thy people in their heart, And love the souls whom Thou dost love: 4 To love and pray, and never faint,

By day and night strict guard to keep;
To warn the sinner, cheer the saint,
Nourish Thy lambs,and feed Thy sheep.

5 Then, when their work is finished here,
May they in hope their charge resign;
When the Chief Shepherd shall appear,
May they, O God, in glory shine.

HURSLEY. L. M.

A-men.

693

I WE bid thee welcome in the name
Of Jesus, our exalted Head;
Come as a servant, so He came,
And we receive thee in His stead.

2 Come as a shepherd; guard and keep
This fold from hell, and earth, and sin;
Nourish the lambs, and feed the sheep,
The wounded heal, the lost bring in.

3 Come as a teacher sent from God, Charged His whole counsel to declare; Lift o'er our ranks the prophet's rod, While we uphold thy hands with prayer.

4 Come as a messenger of peace,

Filled with the Spirit, fired with love;
Live to behold our large increase,
And die to meet us all above.

694

I O SPIRIT of the living God,

In all Thy plenitude of grace,
Where'er the foot of man hath trod,
Descend on our apostate race!

2 Give tongues of fire and hearts of love
To preach the reconciling word;
Give power and unction from above,
Whene'er the joyful sound is heard.
3 Be darkness, at Thy coming, light;
Confusion, order in Thy path;

I O SAVIOUR, is Thy promise fled? Nor longer might Thy grace endure To heal the sick, and raise the dead, And preach the Gospel to the poor? 2 Come, Jesus, come! return again; With brighter beam Thy servants bless, Who long to feel Thy perfect reign, And share Thy kingdom's happiness! 3 Come, Jesus, come! and as of yore The prophet went to clear Thy way, A harbinger Thy feet before, A dawning to Thy brighter day: 4 So now may grace, with heavenly shower,

Our stony hearts for truth prepare; Sow in our souls the seed of power, Then come and reap Thy harvest there.

I GIRD on Thy conquering sword,
Ascend Thy shining car,
And march, Almighty Lord,
To wage Thy holy war :

Before His wheels, in glad surprise,
Ye valleys, rise, and sink, ye hills!

2 Before Thine awful face

Millions of foes shall fall,
The captives of Thy grace,

The grace that conquers all:

The world shall know, great King of kings,

What wondrous things Thine arm can do.

3 Here to my waiting soul

Bend Thy triumphant way;
Here every fear control,

And all Thy power display:

My heart, Thy throne, blest Jesus, see,
Bows low to Thee, to Thee alone.

DOXOLOGY.

To God the Father, Son,

And Spirit ever blest,

Eternal Three in One,

All worship be addressed: As heretofore it was, is now, And shall be so for evermore !

697

I PRAISE to the Lord on high,
Who spreads His triumphs wide;
While Jesus' fragrant name

Is breathed from every side:
Balmy and rich the odors rise,

And fill the earth and reach the skies.

2 Ten thousand dying souls

Its influence feel, and live; Sweeter than vital air

The incense they receive:

They breathe anew, and rise and sing Jesus, the Lord, their conquering King.

3 But sinners scorn the grace

That brings salvation nigh;
They turn their face away,

And faint, and fall, and die:
So sad a doom, ye saints, deplore;
For oh, they fall to rise no more!

4 Yet, wise and mighty God,

Shall all Thy servants be, In those who live and die, A savor sweet to Thee: Supremely bright Thy grace shall shine, Guarded with flames of wrath divine.
