3 Anoint and cheer our soiléd face

With the abundance of Thy grace; 1 “Go, preach My gospel,” saith the Lord; "Bid the whole earth My grace receive;

Keep far our foes ; give peace at home; He shall be saved that trusts My word ;

Where Thou art Guide, no ill can come. And he condemned that won't believe. 4 Teach us to know the Father, Son, : "I'll make your great commission

And Thee of Both, to be but One; known,

That, through the ages all along, And ye shall prove My gospel true,

Thy praise may be our endless song. By all the works that I have done, 692 By all the wonders ye shall do.

i Pour out Thy Spirit from on high ; 3 "Teach all the nations My commands; Lord, Thine ordainéd servants bless;

I'm with you till the world shall end ; Graces and gifts to each supply,
All power is trusted in My hands; And clothe them all with righteousness.
I can destroy, and I defend."

2 Within Thy temple, as they stand 4 He spake, and light shone round His To teach the truth as taught by Thee, head;

Saviour, like stars in Thy right hand On a bright cloud to heaven He rode ; Let all Thy Church's pastors be. They to the farthest nations spread 3 Wisdom and zeal and love impart, The grace of their ascended God. Firmness with meekness from above,

To bear Thy people in their heart, 691 Veni Creator Spiritus.

And love the souls whom Thou dost love: i Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,

4 To love and pray, and never faint, And lighten with celestial fire ;

By day and night strict guard to keep; Thou the Anointing Spirit art,

To warn the sinner, cheer the saint, Who dost Thy seven-fold gifts impart. Nourish Thy lambs and feed Thy sheep. Thy blessed unction from above 5 Then, when their work is finished here, Is comfort, life, and fire of love : May they in hope their charge resign; Enable with perpetual light

When the Chief Shepherd shall appear, The dullness of our blinded sight. May they, O God, in glory shine.

Souls without strength inspire with

might; 1 We bid thee welcome in the name

Bid mercy triumph over wrath. Of Jesus, our exalted Head ; Come as a servant, so He came, 4 O Spirit of the Lord, prepare And we receive thee in His stead. All the round earth her God to meet;

Breathe Thou abroad like morning air, 2 Come as a shepherd ; guard and keep

Till hearts of stone begin to beat. This fold from hell, and earth, and sin; Nourish the lambs, and feed the sheep, 5 Baptize the nations far and nigh; The wounded heal, the lost bring in. The triumphs of Thy Cross record;

The name of Jesus glorify, 3 Come as a teacher sent from God,

Till every kindred call Him Lord.
Charged His whole counsel to declare ;
Lift o'er our ranks the prophet's rod, 695
While we uphold thy hands with prayer.

1 O SAVIOUR, is Thy promise fled ? 4 Come as a messenger of peace,

Nor longer might Thy grace endure Filled with the Spirit, fired with love ; To heal the sick, and raise the dead, Live to behold our large increase, And preach the Gospel to the poor? And die to meet us all above.

2 Come, Jesus, come! return again; 694

With brighter beam Thy servants bless

Who long to feel Thy perfect reign, 1 0 Spirit of the living God,

And share Thy kingdom's happiness ! In all Thy plenitude of grace, Where'er the foot of man hath trod,

3 Come, Jesus, come! and as of yore

The prophet went to clear Thy way, Descend on our apostate race !

A harbinger Thy feet before, 2 Give tongues of fire and hearts of love A dawning to Thy brighter day: To preach the reconciling word ;

4 So now may grace, with heavenly Give power and unction from above,

shower, Whene'er the joyful sound is heard.

Our stony hearts for truth prepare; 3 Be darkness, at Thy coming, light; Sow in our souls the seed of power, Confusion, order in Thy path;

Then come and reap Thy harvest there,

Psalm 45.

697 1 Gird on Thy conquering sword, 1 PRAISE to the Lord on high, Ascend Thy shining car,

Who spreads His triumphs wide; And march, Almighty Lord,

While Jesus' fragrant name To wage Thy holy war:

Is breathed from every side : Before His wheels, in glad surprise, Balmy and rich the odors rise,

Ye valleys, rise, and sink, ye hills ! And fill the earth and reach the skies. 2 Before Thine awful face

2 Ten thousand dying souls Millions of foes shall fall,

Its influence feel, and live; The captives of Thy grace,

Sweeter than vital air The grace that conquers all :

The incense they receive: The world shall know, great King of

They breathe anew, and rise and sing kings,

Jesus, the Lord, their conquering What wondrous things Thine arm cando.

King 3 Here to my waiting soul Bend Thy triumphant way;

3 But sinners scorn the grace Here every fear control,

That brings salvation nigh; And all Thy power display:

They turn their face away, My heart, Thy throne, blest Jesus, see,

And faint, and fall, and die : Bows low to Thee, to Thee alone.

So sad a doom, ye saints, deplore;

For oh, they fall to rise no more ! DOXOLOGY. To God the Father, Son,

4 Yet, wise and mighty God, And Spirit ever blest,

Shall all Thy servants be, Eternal Three in One,

In those who live and die, All worship be addressed :

A savor sweet to Thee: As heretofore it was, is now,

Supremely bright Thy grace shall shine, And shall be so for evermore!

Guarded with flames of wrath divine.

1699 1 How beauteous are their feet

1 O God of sovereign grace, Who stand on Zion's hill,

We bow before Thy throne, Who bring salvation on their tongues,

And plead, for all the human race, And words of peace reveal !

The merits of Thy Son.

2 Spread through the earth, O Lord, 2 How charming is their voice !

The knowledge of Thy ways ;
How sweet the tidings are !

And let all lands with joy record “Zion, behold Thy Saviour King;

The great Redeemer's praise.
He reigns and triumphs here."

700 3 How happy are our ears,

I COME, kingdom of our God,
That hear this joyful sound,

Sweet reign of light and love !
Which kings and prophets waited for,

Shed peace, and hope, and joy abroad, And sought, but never found !

And wisdom from above. 4 How blesséd are our eyes,

2 Over our spirits first That see this heavenly light!

Extend thy healing reign ; Prophets and kings desired it long,

There raise and quench the sacred But died without the sight.

That never pains again. 5 The watchmen join their voice,

3 Come, kingdom of our God, And tuneful notes employ;

And make the broad earth thine ; Jerusalem breaks forth in songs,

Stretch o'er her lands and isles the rod And deserts learn the joy.

That flowers with grace divine. 6 The Lord makes bare His arm

4 Soon may all tribes be blest Through all the earth abroad;

With fruit from life's glad tree; Let every nation now behold

And in its shade like brothers rest, Their Saviour and their God !

Sons of one family.
