During the past year, the Board lost its oldest member, the late Charles Fisher, Esq. He was first elected to the School Board in 1850, and although he did not occupy the position of a Trustee during all the rest of his life, he always took a warm interest in the welfare and progress of our Public Schools. Ever kind and affable, genial and gentlemanly, he was highly esteemed by all who knew him. As a private citizen he was generous and warmhearted; as a public officer he was faithful and reliable. He had been for years, before his death, actively employed in connection with the Benevolent and Charitable Institutions of the City. The following Resolution was passed by the Board on Wednesday, September 1st, on learning of Mr. Fisher's death.

It was moved by Dr. Ogden, seconded by Mr. Bain, and unanimously resolved.

"That this Board has learned with deep regret of the death of one of its members, Charles Fisher, Esq., for several years a Public School Trustee, for the Ward of St. John, and desires to place on record its high appreciation of the services of Mr. Fisher in the cause of education, and to express to the family of the deceased its sincere condolence in their sad bereavement."
